Hammered Deer Creek Freddies last week
#1
I spent the mornings of Friday and Saturday up at Deer Creek.

Friday was a test run for my father and me as I was hosting my daughter, future son-in-law and a customer/friend Saturday and we wanted to make sure the boat was working and DC was going to be the place to go.

The two of us caught 51 between 6:30 and 11:30.

Deer Creek was the place to go for some quick action....

Saturday morning was not quite as fast but very close. I kept my guests fishing and the three of them caught 37 between 6AM and 10:30AM.

Dragging flies was the best option, but downrigged dodgers with a wedding ring worked well also.

It was an awesome couple of days of family fishing fun.

The water was still very cool 51 degrees. I was hoping to make my tube trip this week targeting bass, but the water temp isn't there yet.

Next week might be a Yuba trip just to give the finless freddies a break.

Sounds like a lot of fun! What flies were you using? How deep were you trolling them?

Friday olive mohairs were the hottest. Saturday it was black crystal buggers.

We generally run them on full sinking line let out all the way behind the boat (as I recall, they usually hover at 5-7').

The downriggers were best at 13'.

Are you using fly line or trolling line? And next how do you keep it at that depth with all the line out?
A midnight fire on an Intermediate line for me but I go for carp[Smile] Rainbow were on the midnight fire and Type III line.

Full sink Fly line on the fly poles. It stays at depth with the drag (we're trolling the flies above the downriggers... it makes for a great combination). We vary speed between 1.3 and 1.8mph.

It helps A LOT adding jigging to the flies (not just sitting them in a pole holder and waiting).

And yes we were targeting the trout with these techniques.

On my tube I use sinking tip line and drag it slower... but that's another story.

Ice is off at Scofield so I've found my next destination!

You say a full sink line but that could be 6 or 7 different lines. What type, II, III, IV, V, VI, OR VII.
