Strawberry from a boat after ice off
#1
I was thinking about making a run up to Strawberry this weekend to fish from the boat. Any reports on the ice situations or the ability to launch this early? I was thinking about starting at mud creek if the water is open enough.
First time on Strawberry with the boat. Any advice??

I can't speak to the fishing, but the Strawberry Marina posted today on Facebook that they received 4" of new snow and the lake iced up over night. Who knows what you'll see on saturday. I am going to try to give it a go on Thursday and will report the status.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I know I had to cover my newly planted garden last night due to a hard freeze warning. Based on the weather report for the next few days I am hopeful it will be open by the weekend.

Snow was pretty much melted off before we left today around 4 pm. No ice ,no where we could see.

I fished it last thursday as well as today. The ice is near completely off other than in a few very backs of bays in renegade. It Should be off by end of the day tomorrow.

Fishing was tougher than expected today (tuesday) as we "hammered" them on thursday with 120 fish in about 4.5 hours so we figured we had to get back up there asap, especially since the recent weather slowed down the bass we figured the trout were a much better option, but today was hard on the Berry with only 6 fish boated, 2 lost at the boat and only 2 follows in 6 hours....and a few misses as well.

I found the fish much deeper today but was not willing to fish in 40' of water to catch them so stuck to beating banks mainly. Most people wouldn't believe me if I told you what the lure was that produced most of the fish....I would have never tried it but the guy with me caught 2 fish on it so I tried and succeeded - he does not like catching trout as he is a bass, musky guy...so he used bass and musky lures to catch his fish today.

I am also heading up Thursday. I am going after some deep with my downriggers. I may try for Kokanee in the narrows too. remember, big cutts like the shallow back bays this time of year too.

Hope to see some of you..I'm in a silver and black Lund Tyee.
