My Willard Curse is broken.
#1
FINALLY caught a wiper today. Then another, and then a limit. They live up to the hype as fighters and really are fun to catch. Thanks for the help from forum members ( you know who you are!)

I had been at it so long. I had fished many of the methods and baits In the past, but I think I needed the confidence in YOUR success to stick with it. I would never have lasted as long today as it took to get those first bites if I hadn't known for certain that I was doing it right.

Thanks again, and I hope to not have to go thirty more trips between now and the next one!

Congrats! They are fun to bring in. Did you fish from the bank or were you on a boat?

Congrats! My last three trips for wipers have all been duds. Total skunkings, even. Glad you got to scratch one off the list.

Kudos. Now you're hooked, and are such to be back for more punishment and lessons in humility! No doubt!

I need to try some of the lessons I've been taught, Sadly today missing an opportunity (stupid "W-O-R-K" duties demand). But I hope my comrades will have tails to tell.

Another angler who's long overdue to knock that bucket list mark. At least I know he's in good company, and won't have MY banana hands to mess with his luck.

SO - as asked - boat, bank? North - South? Care to share what they took ya on? Fine if not.

Shore fishing. I was on the south side of the west dike, not in the corner exactly, but way south of the light pole. But, slow but catching reports coming in from Freeway Bay, North Dike, SW cornerand channel mouth.

Used mussels on a slip sinker rig and bobber. The bobber rig was one I learned a long time ago for catfish And salt water. The bait shouldn't dangle below the bobber. Uses a bobber stop so the line was much longer than the water was deep and a tiny jighead or weight. Thus the bait is ON the bottom, and the fish can pick it up and run a few feet.

The one puzzle is why trollers do well with jigs and cranks, but I can't seem to I terest them from the shore, even when I add a casting bubble and really haul it out there.

Way to go SB glad you got them. Maybe I will someday I hope. Think I might have had one pick up my minnow today but I couldn't close the deal and set the hook. It was a really violent strike and run and the jerk and nada. Congrats. J

I fished in the morning there and didn't see a fish caught, must have been an afternoon thing.

We got there about 3pm, yeah. A decent # of people, some had none, but most had one or more. Wasn't fast, but it was ok.

Good luck next time!
