dead fish in slot?
#1
The proclimation does not specify, if you catch a fish in a slot or a fish that is catch and release only what are the regulations? Can it be kept or do you just leave the dead fish in the water where it was caught?

The fish must be released regardless of the condition of the fish. This might sound wasteful and harsh, but to allow the fish to be kept for any reason would give too many people excuses to keep the fish. If the fish became completely dead between the time you caught it and subsequently released it, your fishing technique or fish-handling technique probably needs to be examined.

If it is going to die, and it is legal to keep, why not keep it?

The guide is a little confusing. All slot limit lakes specifically say all fish from __-__inches must be immediately released. I would assume its a cutt. They dont last long out of the water. Theyre pretty much dead by the time you reel them in. No pics unless you plan to kill it. Dont even take it out of the water unless it looks over the slot. If hooked deep using PB cut the line close, leave the hook and release asap. Hold them upright and wiggle side to side, slowly, NOT forward back. I do that for at up to 15 min until it swims on its own. If it dies theres nothing you can do, theres a million more coming this fall. But at least you tried.
