Just wanted to say thanks to all of you BFT regulars who gave advice about Willard. Went up Monday, Tuesday and today and I have to say that I have not had this much ridiculous fun in a long time.
The bite is slowing from Monday, at least for crappie, but I still caught limits and then some each day. Tonight I caught a monstrous catfish. Hit hard and started stripping line while dragging me toward Idaho. Tried to bust my rod in half, I swear. Sat on the bottom a couple times and shook his head, then tried to take me to Nevada. After about a 20 minute fight, I got him to my tube, and the ungrateful wretch then tried to sink me by attacking my poor little tube, THEN he bit me! Surly, not to be finished, he barked while I tried to pry my thumb from his mouth and unhook him. I have no idea what specie of catfish he was, but WOW what a strong fish!
Did I mention fresh crappie filets for a midnight snack are positively delicious?!

Well, I only weigh like a buck 30, soooo, he didn't need much effort!
I'm assuming a channel cat? Didn't know they would hit a plastic.

Hey Suckerbait, welcome to Willard Bay. That Catfish hitting a lure was new one on me too. Have caught maybe thousands of Cats near and below the Mason-Dixon Line, all on something stinky, sitting on the bottom of the water. But a couple years ago I was trolling along the south wall near the feed lot in about 5 feet of water. Had chrome and yellow rat-l-trap on the line, and was going slow enough to make the lure hit bottom, bounce, sink and hit bottom again. and about the 3rd or 4th bottom bounce a very determined and aggressive Cat took off with that lure. I thought I had hooked a large Wiper, or even a big Carp. But turned out to be one of Willards average cookie cutter Cats. But one that had a real attitude.

That's not a bad yarn mate. Thanks for sharing. We catch catfish down here (salt water ones) on artificials. Have caught plenty in softies. Also while chasing barra up north my mate scored a big one on a surface lure walking the dog!!!! Never seen that before and if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I would have doubted it!!!
Thanks again for sharing

Was that you tonight in the tube. If so, that was me and my Pops in the small duck boat. Sounds like we we're a day off the bite buy still had fun. I have to admit I was a bit jealous of the walleye!(if that was you)

Musky, it was indeed. I really enjoyed your Pops' wit! and thank you so much for the worms. Now I just have to decide where to dunk 'em!
Mmmmmm. I must admit that walleye was de-lish. Love to catch some more of those. I dunno about the bite, the other tuber looked like he had a few more than me at the cleaning station. Way nice guy, he even helped me finish filleting what I had.
Who turned on the wind is what I want to know? That pretty much drove me back into the marina. Hope you guys did better where you were.

Picked up a couple more was all. Yeah that wind was wierd. Chilled the wifey and kiddos so we finished up shortly after. That guy said they were very light takes and he was set up well for that and had it down for sure! Nice to meet another forum member! Tomorrow(actually in a few hours) I will chase my true love= Muskies! So good luck on your next quest :-)
