Chesterfield Advice?
#1
My daughter and I ran up to Chesterfield from Bear Lake area last weekend just to check it out before making the trek up there with the boat. Saturday I plan on dragging the boat up and was wondering if any of the great BFT members could offer up any advice to a newbie at the location? It is a belated father's day gift to my dad, and I would love to land a few fish. Thanks

I am more looking at trolling. I am not an avid fly fisherman, but I do dabble in it a bit. I will have to make sure I have some in my box. Thanks for the advice

I've had luck with chironomids type patterns as well. If not chironomids something small moved extremely slowly or under an indicator. By the amount of boats I have seen up there when I have gone, fishing hasn't been that good for very many people. I personally don't troll around that much so can't offer advice on that. If it were me I would locate some fish, either deep or 10 - 12 feet of water and park it. If nothing, move on to the next spot.

I don't hear of much from trolling, so please let us know how that goes.

Sorry, not much advice on the trolling, and I only know flies too.

The flies I would try slow trolling would be wooly buggers in green, black, and brown, damsel flies, and small minnow imitations.

Good luck, hope you have a great time.

I will have to grab a bunch of wooly buggers before I head up. I depleted my supply on the last trip to Strawberry in May. Thanks

We had a great trip up to Chesterfield Saturday. We launched about 8am and had our limit by noon. Most fish were in the 18-20" range and bit on a worm floated off the bottom with a marshmallow or powerbait pellets. We also had the unique experience of watching a small buck swim across the reservoir.

Thanks for the report! Are you sure that was in Idaho? That water looked like glass! Nice fish as well. During hunting season I might have to take my boat to Chesterfield and troll for a buck. That is something you don't see every day!
