#1
This tourney is held this weekend at Flaming Gorge.
Who else is going?

I’ll be at the Gorge but not fishing the tournament. Did Ducks Unlimited do away with the catch and kill regulation with the lake trout portion of the derby? If I remember right, last year the debate got very heated over that subject and this derby.

Good luck to all that fish the derby.

I think it was mitigated by not being able to submit a fish over 26" in for the derby. Does that sound right? I believe the contention was over killing the big old timers?

I’m not totally sure on the 26” thing but yes this derby had a lot of folks up in arms over taking the bigger fish out. I’m not opposed to killing fish for the table but big lake trout need to be protected. IMO.

The rules say 28" maximum for the lake trout. Its about time somebody does it right. Flaming Gorge needs more derbies like a hole in the head. There's something every weekend. However, at least DU isn't promoting the killing, mis-handling, or taking of old lake trout. Hats off to them for listening and doing the right thing.

I stand corrected, I thought it was 26" but glad to know it is 28".
I don't compete for the lakers because I don't know how to do it very well.
I will be trying for koke and rainbows.

Thank you for clarification.

I agree with jim, the people spoke their minds on the subject and du listened, hats off to them!!! Those poor fish already get to much pressure, i think all the derby's should have to fallow the same rules, if you think about it we already have a guide that takes 30+ pound fish out of the lake almost every day, and that adds up fast when hes on the water 200+ days a year and has up to four clients that can each keep one over 28" look at these big fishes mouths most of them have scars from being caught and released before!! If all the guides pulled this crap theird nearly be a fish over 30 lbs left!
