#1
How's the water level at Lowell are the fish still up weeds?

And do you think the water will still be in the weeds by July 4 weekend?

Thanks for the help

Lake Lowell is filled via canal using Boise River water and acts as a regulating reservoir and storage for irrigation. It's full now and my guess with stay full through most of the summer. The water outlook in the watershed isn't fantastic, but it ain't terrible either.

I think the fish are always up in the #$@#$ weeds as long as there is water up there... and there should be on the 4th.

I have a love/hate relationship with Lowell. It can be great or it can kick your butt ... and I can't seem to predict which it will be on any given day!

Sorry to disagree, but the lake is aboyt 5' low at this time. It is dropping 1-2 inches each day. It never did fill this spring. The smartweed is in 1-5' of water along the outer edge, but it will be out of the water this summer. It is about 30,000 acre feet below average for this date.

Check out the data, Anderson ranch is still on the rise. Don't know why they are keeping it lowered this year. May have something to do with discouraging boating or maybe bird habitat. The Feds and the canal company have been arguing for years. When it's up flipping the trees is way cool.

Lots of trees to flip at strike. Just saying.

No, I'm not saying that the smartweed will be out of the water by July 4th. I'm just saying that the lake is dropping fairly fast, and the smartweed will be out of the water sometime this summer. In some places it is already out of the water.

The NY Canal cannot put enough water into the lake to equal the irrigation demand going out. There are two canals leaving the lake and several that remove water from the NY canal before it even gets to the lake. It always drops in the summer, but demand can vary due to weather, the types of crops being irrigated, etc. The ramp at Access 1 is already closed, and at least 2 of the remaining 3 will be closed by September.

The fish will still be there regardless of the water level. Many people prefer fishing crankbaits on the equalizer to flipping the smartweed. Personally, I prefer wading and this year has been the best I've seen in 50+ years. I caught over 800 bass in the month of May alone - all within walking distance of my house.

Just to make sure I wasn't incorrect, I just went across the road and waded around from 9-10:00. In some places the smartweed is 100 yards from the water's edge. In other places it was too deep for me to wade around the outer edge (probably 4' or so). I caught 5 fish up to 19" and lost 2 others that got off in the weeds. Most were in 2-3' of water.

I fished Lowell last night and Smartweed is correct the water is down! Several areas where I fished a couple weeks ago that were in 4-5' of water are now 2-3' I don't fish there often enough to tell you how quickly it is coming down, but it is definitely dropping. Fishing was ok. Fish were very skinny and seem to still be recovering from the spawn.

Well I've decided I'm going no matter what the water is. I've never fished it this time of the year I usually only go to fish the tournaments in April and May. So one more question for you guys is there another grass line that comes up or do the weeds just stop at the edge of the smartweed? And of so what do the fish set up on if there's no structure?

Thanks for all the help guys really appreciate it.
