My family and I are headed up there in two weeks for a reunion. I have never been to this lake and I don't know how to fish it.
I plan to take the pontoon boats to try some fishing away from the shore. What lures and techniques work the best for trout? And what about the Kokes?
I won't be trolling for either fish, but I could drift and jig, fly fish, throw spinners and rapalas. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Throw Big Spoons. Red and White. Their are a lot of small perch. In Montpelier Reservoir Make the trip to Chesterfield. during the week. You might hook into a Monster. After you land one. Head to Lava to relax.

where are you buying license? I would suggest Idaho. Bear Lake offers some Unique Fishing. Big Macs. are always nice. If you buy a Idaho license. You can fish the whole Lake. And, then fish Idaho, on your off days.
Vacations are not always for fishing.
Hope it helps

I'm a Utah resident, and I sometimes fish Bear Lake. Mostly when it has ice since I don't have a boat anymore.

1/8 oz. jigs tipped with a little worm in chartreuse was working for me just recently. Everywhere was just as good as the rest. There where tons of 10-12" bows and perch would take the same rig, although I only caught a few of those while I was there. Basically anything you through though will work. It was fishing well. Also, the creek right below the dam is excellent for browns on a fly.

Fished it with the kids this last Saturday. I think the perch have been nearly wiped out. I have been told by several fisherman that people are encouraged to keep all perch to avoid poisoning the reservoir to eradicate them in the future. (I have not read anything official about that) There are a ton of 10-12" bows that we caught off the dam on a worm with either a marshmallow or floating powerbait to float it off the bottom. We were fishing from a 14' boat and had the best luck on the east side of the reservoir just south of the small peninsula that juts out into the water.
I have yet to land a koke there this year, but in years passed from a float tube I have hit a few in the same general area slow retrieving a worm tipped with some sort of color bait. My buddy was able to land one slow trolling pop gear on a pink squid tipped with shoepeg.
Ditto on the previous post regarding Chesterfield. That was my intentional destination before my nephews got involved, and is where I am heading next Friday and/or Saturday.
