Fished Ellis the 4th and 5th. Hooked 2 and landed 1 jack.

Fished around Sunbeam on the 6th and couldn't get a bite.

Darn tough if you ask me. Feels like they have quit biting and are screaming up the river.

The warmer weather has made it kind of tough. Apparently the hatchery has 905 Hatchery adults so they have made their broodstock goal. That is always a good thing. We need some cooler weather or some overcast days. The water is around 56 degrees last I checked.

Been here since Sunday and zero fish. Fishing around Ellis. Nobody is catch nothing. Talk to the fish counter this morning and zero fish today at 9:00 am, and she could count all fish caught this week on 2 hands. Worst fishing I have seen here. Fish that are in the river are screaming by.

From what it sounds like all the fish being caught are from the hatchery down to below Yankee Fork. Everyone I know that is fishing Challis Down river are not doing hot at all.

Glad to hear that I am not crazy or losing my touch or both.

I spent the last 2 weekends there and it was the same story both times.

I'd like to know where this 56 degree water is. You would have the best chance of any there. Coldest I found last weekend was 58.4 early in the morning, and above Challis. Weather has been pretty warm since then.

Gave it a roll on Friday...Hooked one and my cousin hooked 2. Super slow. We didn't even see a single fish move into the hole. Typically you would see fishing moving in all day if they were there. I went up to the hatchery and they had a lot of fish in the trap and just a monster cloud of salmon right at the weir. The natives were having a hay day.

Unless they truck some fish back down, I think it is over. The water was pushing the 60 degree mark and those fish have closed their mouths and blown to the top as fast as they could.

Maybe there are some straglers, but I think your best chance in the next few weeks will be below Ellis if some of those summer fish show up a little later like they generally do.

Good luck to everyone. Time to break out the fly rod..

Fished a couple hours Wed with cloud cover and managed to catch a couple wild fish. My buddy landed Three Thurs morning and he talked to another friend who landed 6 with his son. Another friends group landed six on Friday. Fishing was very good two and a half weeks ago. 75% of the fish being caught or higher are wild. Fish are still coming and will continue for a couple more weeks to Sawtooth but agree weather is too hot. Stopped with boys from scout camp and the Indians had four on at a time at Hatchery on way home. Other Friends reported hundreds of fish backed up in front of hatchery last monday. Two different friends who had poor luck said the river was black with fish for over a hundred yards below weir on tuesday as well. Nice new sign showing the Sho-bans in good light just erected in front of weir. Kind of had a sick feeling as usual when I left seeing the slaughter of the wild fish some as large as 25#s.

Well we fished Sunday and Monday around the bridge up river from Stanley. Two day trip between 2 of us we hooked 13 fish and Landed 4 and all four were wild fish. Watched probably 20 others landed by fisherman below the bridge in the deep hole. Once it hit 11 or so and the sun was high the fishing stopped so we went sight fishing down river. Found fish in any spot a trout would hold log jams, under cut banks and behind rocks. Watched a ton of guys that never touched fish but they also were sitting in a folding chair all day long. Glad we had a great trip and could not have asked for anything better besides the temps.
