Cut it off for sure!
I caught a fish the other day that had a small treble hook hanging out it's butt and the line and swivel were hanging out it's mouth. The hook will either free itself later on or just rust out after some time. If you try to dig the hook out the chances of survival are poor. A hook is a small price to pay for the chance of survival for a nice fish.
Good question! You would be surprised at how many people kill fish trying to save a damn hook.[mad]

Just cut it off close to the mouth. Last week I caught a cutthroat at Strawberry with 2 feet of line hanging out of its mouth covered with algae, so it had been there for some time. I cut my line and the other line off close to the mouth and away it swam.

Quit throwing power bait and they won't swallow it.
