SFCR 7/12/14

Well it was a very rough night sleeping in Grey's Landing because of a very windy night[pirate] but Sat. morning was beautifull! My wife & I fished till noon or so and mostly in the Big Sand Bay area. I am trying to be more effective with my fly rod again and feel comprable to my other flyrod friends, but I am still stuggling[crazy]

I could blame my struggle this time on my wife[unimpressed] I had her set up with a casting bobber and a small jig head trailing a worm. She had a fantastic day with 4 released walley, just to samll to clean and 4
keepers, plus a to small bass anice perch and a northern pike minnow [Smile]to my 1 12" walleye [:p]( which I had to keep just to save face)[crazy] The reason I can lay my failure at catching is that she still has me bait, remove all fish and retie if she looses any lures, she had a nother break off and 2 quick releases[cool]

None of the eyes were over 13" but we some cause the freezer is void of eye and low on perch as well. Here is a picture of what we kept, not count the nth pike minnow, for bait.

and here is a picutre of our camper and boat setup

Yes, I have put the guides on and have adjusted them, however I loaded it by hand. I willard be locking for some waders with boots just for loading. I haven't tried to drive on since we were at Cascade over Memorial weekend. In fact this was the first time we had the boat out since then. How things with you?

Idahopanfish I have been fishing SFCR the last couple weeks and have had 30+walleye days as well as numerous bass, perch and 5 real nice crappie all on a fly rod. Fishing in 6-10 feet of water. Nothing real big mind you(20" the biggest). I wonder if all the bigguns are feeding at night with the SUPERMOON

I agree with the night fishing but IF have never done that from a boat. I have the running lights but not sure about what else to carry with safety being important.

I also believe that mastering a better understanding of fishing the walleye deep would help.

If you don't mnd what do your flies look like and do you tie your own?

Looks like a successful trip. Nice that your wife could go with you, and even nicer yet that you help her. To me it's as much fun to see them catch and help whoever you are fishing with as it is to catch my own. When you take your kids, grandkids, or spouse with you, then the trip is more about them having success.

Looks like a good day. Very glad you made it out again. It's a bit hard to believe you haven't been out since Memorial day. You really must fish more often. [Smile]

I agree on getting out more. I have wet the line 2 other time before this but neither involved the boat. One was at the hummingbird feeders in the south hills in the creek behind them. Caught 2 there the rest of the time was driving around admiring all wild flowers and Gods creation.

The nest was in Utah down by Tooele with some of Gloria's relatives, fly fished a little pond there for trout and had a good day as well.

Loved being in the boat though and Gloria had a great time so it was even better!

just to chime in on night fishing, This time of year that's about the only time I will fish. The first time out is sort of different, but after you get used to it, there is no better way to fish in the dog days of summer.
I have the cheap battery lanterns, ( 3 inch tall ) set up on the rails of the boat, and very good spot light, and a good head lamp. That lanterns will give some reflective light on the shore, head lamp to re-tie.
It is also a good idea to have a good GPS, in case you wish to move around the lake.
Night fishing is very very peaceful.
