Any tips where I can take my son bowfishing sat morn?
It is very important he shoot a few fish as he has never done it before. I can't physically bowfish so I am hoping I can angle while he shoots.
I have a boat but don't want to risk damage by running super shallow.
Maybe Lincoln Beach area or Deer Creek up towards Charleston?
I fear too many rocks at Willard will damage his new equipment.

Pine view is decent deer creek shot well when it was full. Haven't been there lately. Cutler is usually good through August. You can walk the dikes at Willard and get shots.

[#0000FF]Hey Shane, not sure if you are aware or not but one of the new regs is that if you have a physical situation you may get a permit that allows you to shoot carp with a crossbow. I think you do that for deer, right? Check page 13 of the current regs.[/#0000FF]

You are right, I do hunt deer and elk with my crossbow.
The problem is my bow is 175 lbs. and once an arrow is in the mud at that force you cant get it out.
Parker makes a nice bowfishing crossbow, mostly designed for gar and gators, but it is over 500 bucks. If I could only get the feds to peel off 5 notes to me instead of the Loy's I would be in business!
Thank you for thinking of me though.

I thought of Lagoon but thanks to Clint Calder poaching all those geese there they will never let me in with a bow!

[#0000FF]Since you don't really need high end equipment...or telescopic sight accuracy for shooting carp...why can't you get one of those cheapy crossbows and add on the AMF setup for bowfishing?
Forgive my iggerance since I have never even shot a crossbow. Killed a grundle of carp with both recurve and compound regular bows but not the cross kind.
I was at the RAC meeting where the bowfishing group originally presented their proposal for allowing the use of crossbows by select individuals.
Also, when shooting from a boat a lot of the shots are at carp cruising the surface over deeper water. The potential for damaged or mud-stuck arrows should be reduced...if you plan your shots. But what hunter or fisherman EVER is guilty of proper planning?

What's planning?[:p][/quote]
It's when that happy accident works out in your favor, and you look back with smug approval, arms crossed, and say with all pretense of confidence, "Yeah - I meant to do that"!

Me and my buddy took my boat up into the north end of deer creek last weekend and shot many more times than we got hits. they tend to get really shallow but we had many shots at fish on the surface cruising around with the bow mount in three to four feet of water with many fish back in the really shallow stuff. My estimate on shots from both of use was around 50-60 a piece. in about an hour. you need an elevated shooting spot as most fish spook within about 20 feet because it is so clear. but allot of nice shots with them sitting still just under the surface. sorry for the late report on deer creek.

We shot mud lake(aka provo bay) two weeks ago the water is getting really shallow and is about over out there with the water dropping so fast. you need a mud boat like this to get in there though you wont be getting a regular boat in there.

Thanks everybody for all the tips.
I ended up having to go to work saturday morning so we did not have as much time as we wanted.
During my lunch break we hit the river and he cleaned out two carp.
It was not stellar but at least we hopefully made room for two decent fish.
