The wife and I just returned from several days fishing for the kokanee at Flaming Gorge. The weather was just beautiful fishing the mornings for the kokanee. We were on the water about 630 each morning and off by 930 or 10. We fished the WY side launching out of Squaw Hollow. The kokes were pretty much all over. We were joined by good friends "Smoke On The Water" and his wife. We found the biggest kokes between 55 and 65 ft. as was stated last week by another BFT member. We ran squids behind various color RMT Bahama mamas trolling at 1.7 to 1.9 MPH. Several of the larger males were starting to turn to their spawning colors. Going to make for some good smoked fillets.[cool]

Those big Gorge Kokes sure spank the fins off the little Piggy ones. Can see the pink setting in on that one - bit of a hookjaw going?
Nice going - fun adventures - yet another for the big-bucket list!

The wife and I still prefer the flavor of the smaller ones out of Porcupine fried in butter with a little seasoning, especially for breakfast when we use to camp up there for the weekend years ago before it started getting trashed and over ran by the crowds. It was a beautiful place to camp & fish back in the 70's and early 80's.

I am also up here for a few days fishing around anvil. We found the kokes about 50 feet of water. Also have done excellent for rainbows here in anvil draw. We also hooked one laker out with our kokanee tackle, little guy tthough. Here is a picture of our nicest koke. He was right about 20"

Glad to see you got into some big ones. Looks like you had a great trip. Did you use the beads on your squids?

I already had some tied up with beads on from fishing the Tournament back in May. The depth was the key for the larger kokes alot of fish showing from 35 to 45 feet but they were smaller, when we dropped down the hits were fewer but larger fish, thank you much for the info. I didn't have a scale with me but the wife's largest koke was just a tad under 22 1/2 inches which is the largest kokanee she has ever caught, not being a kokanee pro I'm not sure how much that male would have wieghed. She had never had kokanee strip line off the reel like they did. Fun trip for both of us. [cool]

You wouldn't want to see him in the hat he normally wears, kinda scary.[shocked] You gals need to join us for a trip next year. Hunting season is just around the corner, one more trip to Starvation then that's about it for us until the hard water.

We'll unfortunately Pete we are all booked up on fishing trips. Hopefully someday we'll make it to the Gorge before we become dust in the wind.
