Who's been up to the Grand daddy's? Is the fishing good? I see on the map it's a fairly long hike in. How is the trail, rough, steep, moderate??? Is it worth the hike in? (I know that's a little dumb since about any trip to the high Uinta's is great).
Some friends and I are thinking about going on a pack trip up to that area, and a couple of them have never done a pack trip. Is this area too rough for some rookie packers?

I have taken the scouts into the Grand Daddy's a number of times. I have gone there with groups of young scouts because it is a hike beginners can do. It isn't a walk in the park hike and there are some steeper parts of the trail but has been very accessable to the boys I have taken. The fishing is usually good at one of the lakes in the area. We have always enjoyed fishing Mohawk Lake and the fish seem a little bigger. If you have any more questions I can help you with let me know.

How far is the hike to Granddaddy lake from the trailhead? About how long does it take to hike it?
Thanks.

About 3.5 miles from Grandview trailhead and the first mile is a tough one. Should be able to get there with Scouts in 2.5-3 hours.
Fishing has been average

The fish should be back from spawning and now in the Lake.

I know a lake just a couple of miles beyond that holds some better brook trout. P.M. me if interested.

Went last year with some Scouts. The hottest fishing we had in three days was in Heart Lake on the way out. It's the tiny lake you hike past once you enter the basin on the South Side. Not super big fish (9-11 inch), but fly and bubble out into the rocks got you a fish every 3-5 casts. We had good luck at Grandaddy Lake, too. Camped a Ruth's Lake, but didn't catch anything there.
Have fun!
