Tried my luck on the pig on the 24TH. I don't have a downrigger so I came up with a rig. I used a heavy bottom bouncer with some leader than a dodger followed by a pink reaction squid. I was doing pretty good, I was about to net my second Koke when my clip on my bottom bouncer came undone and away went the fish with dodger and all. I had only purchased one dodger because I pretend that I'm poor, hence the no downrigger. No more kokes after that.
My friend did catch a brown but it did not fight at all. He new there was something on his line when he started reeling it in but who knows how long it had been on. It sounds like a repeat of the brown WiperMac caught there the other day.

Nice report. Bummer on the lost fish. Looks like time to tweak the system a little so it doesn't happen again. Also would like to see a pic of the rig. Thanks for sharing.[cool]

You can make a poor mans down rigger using a heavy weight or ball and some light rope. Tie knots in the rope every 10' so you know your depth.
Use a down rigger clip and lower the rope, ball and line to the desired length and tie off the line. This works in a pinch.

I don't know if the clip came undone or if in my rigging up that I forgot to clip it shut. Probably my error. Here is a pic of the setup.

You might check KSL, you might not find a fancy electric, but there's some simple hand crank models. If you have a fish finder, that can tell you where your weight is.
Your rig should would (and did!) but with a clip setup you can run 30-60 feet out before clipping in. Kokes can be kindy spooky.

Thanks for the info. I have been checking KSL for a little while but still haven't found one yet. I'm going to try to save a little money and get the cheaper hand crank one at sportsman.

I fished it Saturday. was alittle slower fishing then it has been and had to find a new place to launch with the low water conditions. took home 9 for the bbq. took a buddy that has never fished with the equipment I use to im blaming the low number in the boat on that.

Did I pass you leaving Saturday afternoon, I was in the trihull passed a Tracker (I think) on a turn, was that you??? We put in a couple hours before dark, found the fish do unzip really easy... We caught one out of four hook ups... Not very good odds... Had a couple really strong fighters I was amazed how hard they pulled, ended up losing them... Ended up with 6 from 12 to 13.5"... I had fun and wanted to stay longer but darkness ended that for us... Had two really great folks up at the upper boat launch that helped me get launched and loaded, they were life savers for me, because the launch is getting pretty steep and tricky...Nice to have good people around... no that wasn't me I was in the red and white Galaxie. I launched in the back but not at the launch. I drove down beforethe spring and launched between the trees

Jason, I know the location your talking about before the springs but did you end up driving up to the top to park or was there room to park below the trees?

That spot did look better but they told me it was really loose and trucks were having a tough time launching there. So I tried the steep one. Has anyone tried the first launch lately? It looked perty washboardy to me but not as steep. Later J
