There is lake town reservoir to the south of the lake and then there's the garden city community pond I've never fished either of these but good luck to you

I heard some stories of a reservoir up north around Montpelier that supposedly has really nice perch, might have bass as well but I don't know anymore than that. Usually when in Bear Lake it's Mac and Cutt time and fish the other stuff when you're home, but that's just me I guess. Good luck. J

The Garden City community pond is right in Garden City about 1/2 mile south of the Logan Road (US 89) junction in town. There are signs (rather small) along the road that show where to turn off (Buttercup Lane). It was stocked yesterday with rainbows so the fishing should be stellar this coming weekend for the Raspberry Days festival.
Laketown Reservoir is another close spot. The water has dropped a little bit and the weeds are growing up too, but the fishing has still be decent. You can get to this pond by going into Laketown and following 200 East street up the canyon for about 1 mile. The road is a bit rough, but its a pretty little reservoir.
Don't overlook the Logan River/Beaver Creek at this time of year. You can catch cutthroat, rainbow and brookies in the upper stretches of the stream which is about 10 miles from Bear Lake.

I fished Montpelier Reservoir from my float tube last Saturday evening. I couldn't keep the perch off my line, and none were bigger than about 6". I did land one 12" rainbow and actually finally landed a kokanee in the 14" range, first one of the year. The water has come down about 5 feet in the last few weeks and I don't think I would try to launch my 14' aluminum anymore. It is a great place for a float tube or to take kids, I usually fish off the dam with a worm and marshmallow or floating powerbait and seem to keep the kids entertained.

Thank you all for the info. We never made it fishing this time up, but this will come in handy next time.
We ended up touring the Minnetonka Cave. Not quite like fishing, but very cool. Literally. The temp outside was around 80, inside a damp 40. I suggest going if you are up there.
