Anyone been up there lately? Im heading there this weekend with the family for an night and want to give fishing a shot. ill have a motorized canoe if that helps my odds much, thanks!

Rockport is full of planter Rainbow Trout. There are a lot of bigger hold over trout in there also. It's a big reservoir, so you may not find high concentrations of schooling fish. If you are getting bites, try moving around to find the fish.
Standard baits and spinners all work there.

As the water warms the fish tend to find deeper, cooler and more oxygenated water to hang out in.
Fish deep and slow, early morning and late evening after the day boaters have left.
If you had a depth sounder I would say to locate the old river channel in about 30' of water and start there, fishing along the old channel.

Ive heard the smallmouth fishing can be good as well, any advice on fishing for them?

I would look for rocky areas and use jigs and plastics
