Strawberry Kokanee hard to find
#1
It is hard to post when one does not have a stellar day fishing. But less of a productive day is instructive.

I fished the Soldier Creek side Thursday, exclusively looking for Kokes, Downrigger, RMT flasher, Pink and UV Squid tipped with a green maggot, also had lead core with similar setup. Lead core out 75 to 150 at .8 to 1.3 mph and downrigger between 30 and 55. Got one on the downrigger. Thermocline looked like 40 feet ish. Never really saw any on the fish finder. Tried same areas that worked well 2 months ago. Tried all over.

Maybe just didn't find them, or they were off bite.

Was able to pick up cuts at will on tube jig tipped with a bit of worm.

Maybe you have to be lucky. Luck usually treats me better than skill.

So the question where did they go (Kokes)?

I have had the same luck the last week and a half. Before that we were getting kokes quite regular. There are lots of cutts, even a few in the 25 inch range. But after having kokanee, the cutts are like dragging in a stick.

I feel your pain - I went up today (Saturday) & fought the crowds. That was stupid! We caught a total of 11 fish - 2 kokes & the balance slot cutts. Caught the kokes first thing, prior to 7:00 a.m. Never caught 2 fish on the same thing - so I do not know what they were hitting. Fished the Strawberry side. Off the water at noon, the same time as 25 others waiting to get to the boat ramp.

Of Coarse, we were handicapped. I took my boat in for service (3 weeks) and I get it back and the fish finder does not work - so we were fishing blind. Hard to do this day & age! One downrigger almost fell off (makes me wonder if someone was trying to steal it off my boat at the dealer?). Good thing I caught it - it was being held with one bolt vs. four.

I hate it when I take my boat or truck in for service and come back with more problems than when I took it in!

Agree completely! After getting into koke fishing this year, the cutts just aint near as fun. Rainbows still fight pretty good but them kokes are crazy and often give ya an arial show.

I think the koke fishing really started to slow down in late July. Koke fishing get any better late in the fall?

We fished Friday night on the Strawberry side and couldn't find the Kokes either. Number of random marks on the finder but that was the extent of it.
Ended up with a Rainbow and number of slot Cutts. Grateful the Cutts were biting or my 10 yr old may have given up on fishing!

As mentioned, be careful with your drive to the lake. The construction isn't nearly as dangerous as the impatient people flying around the tankers creating a lane for themselves where there isn't one while at the same time throwing rocks on everyone on both sides of them. Bless their hearts...
