Skunked on Lower Provo
#1
Spent a couple of hours fishing the Provo just above 1-15 yesterday. This was the first time I fished the Provo. Never knew there was such easy access just 5 minutes from my in-laws (where I happen to be at least once a week)! I found plenty of holes with a lot of fish, and I spotted a number a really nice browns. In one hole there were two huge catfish cruising the bottom like two big submarines.

Stupid me! With my inexperience, I couldn't figure out how to properly fish these holes. Consequently, I didn't get so much as a single bite.

I only own a spinning rod, so I tried about 20 different lures (mepps, anglias, rooster tails, small spoons, panther martin, rapala, etc.) and couldn't get anything to bite. In one hole, I could see this beautiful 15 inch brown camped out at the bottom of the falls just waiting for food to come to him. I even tried floating a couple of nymphs by him, but he still didn't bite.

Granted, I was there smack in the middle of the day. Perhaps the fish simply weren't hungry. But I have heard of people having success in those very same spots at all times of day. Some may suggest I try fly-fishing instead. I will, eventually. I don't have the gear yet. I do know lures work just fine in the Provo, though.

I'm not so much frustrated as I am determined to conquer those spots now. Gotta figure out how to fish them properly. Such a great family friendly location. Kids can play at the playground and I can be fishing within a stone's throw.

I've always found the fish through there hard to catch. Sorry, don't have any advice, just some empathy for your situation. :-)

Hopefully others have some tips for that area.
