Hit Jordanelle Again...
#1
Okay, So my Son and I hit Jordanelle this morning. NO, I didn't bother targeting Smallies cause they've been small the last few times we've been there..So its Perch time, First cast, landed a healthy 10" Perch and another one and another one...Then I spotted a Big Smallie, looks like a 14"+...I yelled at my son to come witness me land this pig, flipped my Senko, then WHAM!!! As I got her to the bank, Her eyes was sunk in and she didn't really have meat, just bones, looks as she is sick...Shes measured in at 16" but probably weighed no more than 2 lbs...she was very weak...I had to hurry and take a picture and got her back in the water...

Maybe, some one can chime in and explain to me, whats going on...Its a Sad sight to see cause all the years, Ive never seen this...

Other than the sickness, it was a great day, brought 10 really nice size perch for the dinner table...

That's interesting, I haven't caught any that big out of Jordanelle this year but I've caught a ton of smallmouth from there, some in the 12-14 range. They have all seemed fairly healthy to me, just small. Definitely not as chunky as the fish I've pulled out of Rockport in similar length though. I wonder what is going on, seems like there are plenty of minnows swimming the shorelines. Maybe the little guys are hogging them all up. Do they have crawdads in there? I don't think I've seen a single one, maybe that's the problem

Sure would be nice to find somewhere to catch a decent smallmouth this year. Don't think I've landed one over 14 or so.

I'd love to see the pic of the fish if you care to share. I'm pretty new to smallmouth, maybe they aren't as healthy as I think they are.

Great job on the perch!

Perch from the bank at Jordanelle? Very cool. I'm new to fishing and still learning the possibilities for shore fisherman on the different waters near SLC. How did you target the Perch, if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks for the report. Sounds like a great father/son outing.

not targeting smallmouths but your using senkos.???..[Wink]

just messing with you , we've caught numerous perch on senkos this year - but the smallies simply cant resist them

too bad about the sickly looking 16 incher - the smallies i have caught at Jordanelle have all seemed pretty healthy- short but healthy
