Piss Poor Day @ Strawberry - Aug 26th
#1
I launched at the Strawberry Marina & on the water at 6:45 a.m. Headed out to the middle of the reservoir and fished in the general area of the old dam site and the east side bank (both north & south of the dam). Caught 3 slot cutts (16 - 17 inches) by 8:00 a.m. Fished with down riggers 25 to 35 feet. Fished this area until about 9:30 a.m. & then trolled over to the meadows. Hooked up with one other slott cutt around 10:00 a.m. fishing the east bank over by the entrance to the Narrows. Since fishing was so slow, I quit around 11:30. Missed only one other fish, felt like it might have been a rainbow. I was the only boat on the water (that I could see) until 9:00 a.m. So having too many boats on the water wasn't a problem today!

I pulled just about every type of lure through the water, never did key onto anything. I was changing lures every 20 to 30 minutes. All 4 fish were caught on different lures. In hind sight, maybe I should have thrown out the anchor & some power bait. It is hard for me to do that.

I had plenty of time today, so I read back through my fishing log book beginning in 2008. August has statistically always been my worse month fishing Strawberry. Some trips, I never caught a fish & most of the others trips were < 5 - so today was average for me. I am not sure what I am doing wrong; however, I appear to be consistent. I did try some new methods/procedures & they did not work for me either. Did not mark a lot of fish on the finder. Makes me wonder if they are cruising the shorelines?

For Strawberry, this was a "piss poor" day of fishing.

I was there Trursday and it was slow till 11:30 then my wife put on a flatfish on the leaded line and she started catching them so I put on the same flatfish on the downriggers and started catching the cuts.
one time we had 3 on at the same time. It is hard catching Cuts after geting kokanee they fight so much harder.
I think I fished the same place you did.

My catch rate generally picks up again in October; however, I agree with you - I do love the ice fishing.

This has been the best year for Koke fishing. I caught more kokes this year at Strawberry than I have in the past 10 years combined. I hope this trend continues into the future.

I feel your pain. I've just about given up on that place. Last three years when I've taken Vets out for the DAV event it's been the pits. I really do bust my butt for those guys trying to get them on fish - to no avail. Snivel, snivel, snivel.
