I just got back from Powell. We camped and fished the Iceberg canyon area and it was slow. We only saw one real boil and the only way we could cach anything was trolling lures off down riggers at 40 ft. in the shadows. Once the sun hit the area the fish would disappear. We also tried for walleye a it but no luck and my batery on the remote for my electric motor was dead so the large and small mouth action was a no go.

Hey Austin, A great source of info on this site are the Archives. There is a section for Lake Powel and goes back a few years. Try this..http://www.bigfishtackle.com/.../gforum.cgi?forum=95

Powell is a fish factory that nobody lives near. Fishing is so good you could get no replies and still catch fish.

As was said, this time of year, shadows and night are your friends.

Chumming is allowed, for stripped bass using anchovies. Buy a couple of bags here because they are more expensive there. Cut the chovies up into little pieces and drop them in the water. Hook a big piece on your line and drop that down too.

I like to spot fish on the finder and drop 3/4 oz cast-masters down to them, jig it some and pay attention in case you let slack in the line but can't feel the lure tighten the line.

Bluegill will be in the backs of canyons, big rafts of tumbleweed almost always hold some. Use a worm on a small jig under a bobber, slip bobber if you have them.

Catfish will invade the sandy beaches at night, worms, liver, shrimp, anchovies all work. Do not leave your rod un attended, even in a holder as they hit hard and are good sized. I like to use an egg sinker of 1/2 oz or so above a swivel.
