Shore fishing the Gorge?
#1
Howdy folks, long time, no talkie. I've been up to my eyeballs in southern Utah bass and haven't given much thought to any other fishing the last ten months or so... Not that I'm complaining.

However, I'll be up in SLC this weekend and my brother and I want to hit the gorge. The problem is, we ain't got no boat, dig it? Any of you fine fellows have the scoop on where a couple of guys can fish some shoreline? We're not picky, and don't need any secret spots -- just a general area would be peachy. In return, I shall slaughter three Carp in your honor. For when the GoldenBone is dead, TroutChamp will eat his heart.

Danke!

What!!! you have been bass fishing in Southern Utah and haven't been posting any reports, shame on you Dave[mad]. Then you come on the board and ask for help, double shame[Wink]. Just kidding my friend but it would be nice to get an occasional report from you.
There are so many good places to shore fish at the Gorge, the better question would be where to go where you won't catch fish from shore[Wink]. Are you planning on fishing for trout or bass?

I sent you a PM, Wipes.

Nobody likes Sand Hollow reports... The water situation down here is almost DIRE, and that's really all I have to say about that.

So far, I guess we're going to go to Mustang, since nobody else has any suggestions. I looked at it on Google and it looks just as good as anywhere else -- thanks for the tip Lon.

If you're desperate for bass pr0n, I keep a pretty regular update going on Instagram. http://instagram.com/troutbumdave

Sorry Dave, got busy fishing and didn't have time to respond. IMO there are no secrets when shore fishing at the Gorge but the style of fishing you do is another matter all together. I have mainly fished the Wyoming side when shore fishing but bass are bass no matter where you fish for them, try rocky shorelines and coves, small spinners and plastics work well. Trout, try a worm and marshmallow, the worm is the bait but the marshmallow keeps it floating above the bottom so the trout that are cruising by will see the worm. The only place I know of on the Utah side is the Sheep creek area but you can fish near boat ramps at just about all launch areas. Sorry I can't be of much help to you.
Oh yea, we get so few reports from Sand Hollow that I think anyone would love to read any report you posted about that lake. Come on man, toss us a bone, ever once in a while.

Like someone mentioned, the Mustang area is good for bass and a few bows. I've been catching most of my bass on drop shot Gulp minnows. The back of Sheep Creek bay is another good option. There's lots of bows back there right now. I saw a ton of rises when I was down there checking the status of the Kokanee run a couple evenings ago. Just stay out of the creek, as it closed right now for the run. Good luck!
