Echo Report 30/12
#1
All,

Fished Echo today instead of Strawberry. Weather scared me off again. Echo is fully frozen with 4 inches of good ice all around. I got to meet fellow BFTer Chester and his son. He let me play with his new Christmas present, a Vexlar. Those things rock and I want one bad. I wish I had 400 clams to spend on one.

Between Dan and I we got about a zillion Perch and a few trout. All the Perch were small, the biggest went about 7". I've included pics of Dans Brown and my monster Perch. Just be glad it's not challange time yet because this one would have been the one that wins it all for me.

That perch would have definitely rocketed you into the lead! Was it one of your larger ones?

Save that perch for Fish Lake, IFG. I've wanted to use a whole one there - I'd have to size DOWN for the hook, though.[blush] I covet that brown, that's for sure. Never caught one through the ice before. Way to go!

My buddy hooked me up, cleaned it up and got rid of the virus. Seems like it's good now. It's nice to be back.

Kent,

One of the bigger ones? Thats the biggest fish I've ever caught! I liked your old saying better. I've used it at work a few times, credited to you of course.

I have to admit that I stole my old saying (fountain of smarts not youth) from a guy on another fishing site. I think I had an original thought once but I am not sure.

I'd just as well fold up on the challenge with that fish . I do have one smaller than that but no pic . Thanks for the report . I will hit perch water tomorrow , but just can't decide where . Maybe Rockport , or Pineview . I think Rockport is closer to me .

"It is also illegal to use fish or fish parts from one lake at another lake because of the spread of parasites or diseases that may be specific to that body of water." I don't think you can back up this statement from the proclamation.

Not that I support the transfer of fish though. at least the perch and that parisite they have

So I support dbicthy in what they say also.

Anthony,

We started out using bait on our ice flies, but after the first few fish we just used the ice flies. The lack of bait didn't make a difference. The few trout we did catch were all on jigs tipped with night crawlers. Don't fish too deep if you go. We were off the boat ramp 22' of water on the shore side of the old river channel. We tried out deeper in 29' but no luck. The Perch were way easy to catch, if your bringing kids they will have a blast! Go on the small side with the ice fly, the Perch are tiny.

IFG Glad to see you got your computer workin again, How was the ice? Did you have a big jump by the edges or did you need a board?

It was a little slushy right at the edge but no big deal, didn't need the board.

Anthony,

I have fished near the damn and the Perch are a little bigger. It was windy and snowy when we went so we took the ice house. It's to hard to bring it up the side near the dam so we just fished at the marina. The marina is on the Coalville Road side, you have to park at the top and walk down through the break in the fence.

Just joking, as others have testified. I would never move fish from one body of water to another. I gladly pay the big $ to buy them at bait/tackle/convenience stores. Thanks for the heads up, however, and glad we take fishing seriously when we need to. When fishing becomes work, it ceases to be fun. Thanks again, dbicthy!

Hey IFG was a pleasure to meet you in person and on the ice! Thanks for the tips. My son and I had a great time. We fished till 1:30 and left. Caught four trout and a whole bunch of perch.

Went up again today(31). Fishing was faster than yesterday. Perch were so fast, counting just got in the way, so I have no idea how many we caught. Left at noon. If anyone wants to take kids or folks new to ice fishing out, Echo is fast and furious for perch.

Drove by Rockport about 1:30 and saw all the BFTer's on the ice. Wanted to go down, but didnt have time. Will probably head to Rockport Thur(1), Fri(2), and Sat(3) if the weather cooperates.

After I got home this afternoon I swung through AF boat harbor on Utah Lake. About 1 inch of mushy ice. Not even close to safe.
