Hit Strawberry yesterday, fished Renegade about 50 yards off the boat ramp, breeze was blowing straight out from the ramp so we would set up and drift White tube jigs tipped with worm, I boated 19 and my buddy 12, lost a lot more also, weather was perfect! Great day at the Berry. All decent Cutts' with only a couple of Bows'

Nice report and pics Remo, thanks for posting. Sounds like over half the BFT Ut members were up there over the weekend[ ]. Did you see any sunken tow vehicles[ ]?

Ha, no...poor Kent, I have been in that Suburban. Ya there were lots of boats/toons/bank fisherman up there yesterday. Water has a lot of floating moss right now but it has not affected the fishing.

We fished it last week Thursday, also out of Renegade, with the same results using white jigs tipped with a worm. Between three of us we lost track of how many we boated. Only picked up two Rainbows. Most everything we caught were almost on the bottom 35 ft.
I tried sinking flies using my spinning pole with no results.

It did seem pretty busy up there with the good fishing, elk hunting, and duck hunting going on. My daughter and I did pretty good on our kick boats. I was fly fishing and she was using a rainbow rapala. We noticed the same thing with loosing fish. Kylee had a ton of hits on the rapala but she had a hard time hooking up. I figured with two treble hooks on that thing the fish would hook themselves but she missed quite a few. We ended up catching 15 or so between us, all rainbows which I thought was odd but I am not arguing.

Yea there could be 10,000 people up there and the fishing would still be good. It's just hard dealing with a lot of people. I grew up in a small town in south eastern utah. I guess I got spoiled having the lakes to my self growing up. I only fish the Berry 2 seasons of the year. Ice off and right now though November.

MBM, we were using either Type VII or Hover plus a Type III. I was using the 7 and 3. Caught all the Rainbow on the 3 and the cutt on 7. Mojo caught rainbow on the 3 and Cutt on the hover.
I think it was a depth in the water column that the rainbow were ad mid depth in 7' of water to 20' of water.
There was several doubles too. And they seemed to be the bigger ones.

Totally agree. The internet has really impacted our waters, plus magazines.
I laugh at the new issues of some of the fly mags that say "Fish the unknown waters, we will give you a map and tell you what flies to use, enjoy the seclusion. really?
Sunday was early and still a lot of people. Plus they all decided to park length wise limiting parking space, something that has me totally baffled. Backing up to the lake makes so much more sense.
But once out on the water, all is good till people notice you are into fish[laugh]

I went to Strawberry on the 4th. Launched at the main marina at about 7:30 am and fished Strawberry Bay for about an hour and landed 4 nice Cutts trolling dodgers and nightcrawlers. From there I headed to Renegade and trolled mainly in the Horse Creek Bay area. I landed another 36 Cutts in that area. I totaled 40 fish and not a one was a Bow. Several were in the 3 lb range. The Cutts seem to be fighting more than usual Great day, good weather, not much wind.

Yes I find that very interesting they have certain articles on untouched waters. Unfortunately that is no more. I was down to boulder mountain last weekend and very surprised to see how many people were fishing the secluded lakes. I have been going to boulder my entire life. My first trip I was 2 years old. It snowed a lot that year deer hunting and we were stranded until the snow melted. Can't remember much but I look back at the pictures. We fish a couple rare lakes that don't have names way up on top. The first time I came across someone else in the area was 2011. The human traffic has doubled in past few years. I don't own any of the land and it's here for all of us to enjoy. I just hope the newcomer will respect the land. My uncle owns wholesale fishing supply and is friends with the Phillips family. They have helped us a lot with fishing locations and different tactics to use throughout the seasons. They are very good people, they always go the extra mile to make sure that everyone has a great time. I really enjoy catching those big cuts on ice off and throughout the fall.

I hope the newcomers do better than a lot of us old comers. We pick up a lot of trash every time we go out. Seems to be getting worse. Maybe these are the newcomers.

I went up to Strawberry today and fished East Portal. Lots of strikes and misses. Many fish hit hard and then just let go. How does that happen?
I fished there a week ago and had as many hits but hooked almost everything and landed around 30 fish. Today I landed about 10 with about the same number of bites.
I would love to know how a fish can pull so hard and be on the line for 20 seconds and then just let go.
Black leech with blue and red sparkle was the winner. #4 sinking line pulled out about 35 feet. Tried some others but that one got all the love. White tubes are still working good as well.
When will all the moss globs go away? I have never seen that much in past years.

You must have long tails on those leeches. They are biting short of the hook and taking the tail only.

Sometimes that is true, but not at Strawberry. I wonder that too. I even used flies with stingers. Even though I squish barbs, they shouldn't come out with tension.
I am thinking on the bigger flies, maybe the opposite in the they are hitting at the eye and missing the hook.
It happened a bunch to myself and hubby last weekend. Hook up, and have a real fight going on for a few minutes, then nothing.
I would also love to hear others thoughts on this.
Going back this weekend to try some more[ ]

Something else to think of is how sharp are the hooks? That or thefish are just messing with us all and trying to play tug of war[ ]

Obviously, always use sharpened hooks, but again, not the case or cause.
