Heading to the gorge here shortly for 3 or 4 days. Is this a good time of year to catch the bourbot? Any help on how and where and what to fish with to catch some of these would be great. I'll do my part to kill as many as I can.
Thanks in advance.

I use 3/8 to 3/4 oz jig heads with 3-5 in grubs or tube jigs, stick with glow, fish deep, use jigs with some sucker meat on them. They could be anywhere from 40-80 feet of water. They will be on the bottom. They have a tough mouth so set hard. Use 1/0 to 3/0 hooks. I usually put a 1-3 in by 1/2 in strip of carp meat trailling my hook. They have catfish teeth (sandpaper), they will crush your bait and not really bite it. I would recommend more north from buckboard up to firehole. Start in the evening when the sun is setting and as it gets darker go more towards firehole.
Good luck and let me know how it goes, I am planning a trip mid November and end of December for open water and ice.

Also, look for smallmouth habitat, they like the rocks. I have caught them as far south as Anvil, but the higher numbers are further north, 5-30ft of water.
I usually use 3.5 inch curly tail grubs on 1/4-3/8oz jig heads. Really, just make sure it glows and is tipped with some meat (suckers, chubs...ect)
Best of luck. I will be there in a month

Those jigs look nice!
The Burbot Bash went back to the Chamber of Commerce this year and will run Jan 23-25 under the original format.
I believe the Buckboard Burbot Classic will take place February 6-8th, but I'm not sure if that's been finalized yet.
Good luck, Ryno

I stayed home. Fished the berry on Sunday. I managed 50 fish on tube jigs. No slot busters and about 8-10 rainbows. seems everyone else had similar success at the berry this weekend and sinking a truck, i cant even compete with a story like that.
Cheers
