I am fortunate enough to have a tributary to Cutler Reservoir pass through my backyard, where I caught some decent catfish, carp and a grundle of mudcats this spring. That was somewhat suspended for the summer though, when the normal, heavy clouds of mosquitoes arrived.
That said, we have had a couple of good "scrape-your-windshield" freezes in the last week, providing some relief from the dirty little bloodsuckers. So I went fishing out back last night. I only stayed out for about 20 minutes and caught one fish, but it was time well spent. A chunk of carp brought me a nice channel cat measuring in at 29 inches.
The downside is that when I tell my wife I need to get out fishing more, she is quick to point out that I can get out more and stay home at the same time.
