Cutler Report 10-10-14
#1
I decided to try Cutler this morning, finally got a line in the water at 7:30 the water temp is up a little to 58 deg F. Went looking for eyes and cats so I rigged one pole with a 3" curly tail and the other with a chunk of RMT. Just decided to drift in the toon today so I dragged the cut bait and casted towards shore with the jig. Didn't take long to catch my first crappie about 9.5". Should have known that was a bad sign, from then on I ran 6 hits in a row that the crazy fish couldn't figure out how to hold on clear to the net. Changed jigs, poles and still the bad luck continued. Finally I had told my wife I'd be home by 9:30, silly me I knew that wouldn't be long enough to get my bug worked out, but the fish gods Smiled on me on the last cast and I finished with a 11" SMB. Fun morning even though I didn't get much to show for it. Really pretty day though, but the breeze made it a little cool. Later J

Thanks for the report and pics Jeff, glad you got a couple, it must be the moon causing the slow bite.[Wink] Always better to be fishing with little success than not fishing at all.

Hey Curt thanks for the encouragement. The bite wasn't really too bad it was just the hooking that was off today. That loose nut on the reel handle seemed to be at fault. But it was still a fun outing. I hear they are planning on draining Cutler on the 20th. Anyone else heard that and know if that date is correct or not? Got real hard to catch much after they drained it last fall. May have to leave home and try somewhere else. I see you left Willard this week. I really need to try Bear Lake this fall, maybe next week. Well good luck. J

Actually I hit three lakes this week. We fished for browns at the Pig, Macks at big Blue and yesterday I make it out to Willard. Willard treated me the best this week but it wasn't the best week catching wise, for me at least, still nice to get out and fish three different lakes.[cool]

Be nice to have time to do that. Glad you can get after them. Hopefully this moon thing will get worked out so the fish will get back on schedule. Catch ya later J

Did you launch your boat at the pig? Has the water come up? Hope the browns treated you well, they've probably in scarf mode for anything red about now, eh?

Thanks for the report Jeff. Guess times running out for Cutler boating.

Yes, I launched my boat at that third launch that I told you about last year. The water is lower since my last trip there. No red kokes left in the lake now, likely they are all dead. See my latest post for pics of the Pig.

Yup it's getting too close to hard deck time already, with the drain coming too the seasons looking short for the toon. May get some later boat trips in. Well catch a few while it lasts. Later J

Hey Derek, I appreciate that but won't be long and the name will fit again. Howz your son doing? Hope all goes well for him. Are you going to get time to fish again soon? Cats are slowing way down, but there are a few bass. I'm so addicted I can't leave the fish alone. Too bad the days are getting so short now the farming is done I'd like to fish at night but I guess that's why the farming is wrapping up too. Anyway, thanks again and hope to run into you soon. J
