Should have gone with Old Coot maybe....

Well my hopes of fishing Utah Lake today didn't work out. But I was able to get on Willard for a few hours. Morning started not too bad. Light breeze from the south-east. About 1100 that got a bit choppy, and wasn't able to hold my speed and heading the way I wanted, so got over to the "Cat Alley" area along Eagle Beach and washed some worms for awhile. All in all the day wasn't bad, and I kept that dirty, sneaky, skunk out of the boat for one more trip.

Wow TC, I am always impressed when guys land wipers this time of year. Way to go on three of them!

Not that guys can't do it this time of year (many do) but I sure struggle. But then again, maybe it's because I'm always fishing somewhere else this time of year.

OC, if I had a $ or 2 for every time I've been on WB this time of year and NOT boated a Wiper, many times, NOT boated ANYTHING, I could probably buy myself a nice gently used bow mount trolling motor. [laugh] My sonar was showing LOTS of fish, some quite large along the west wall from straight out of the north marina, south along the wall to almost the light pole. And the first one I hooked up 15 minutes out on the water. I stayed about 100 to 150 feet off the wall, and would run slow going straight south at about 1.5 to 1.8 mph. Then I would turn left (east) and pick up speed to about 2.6 - 2.9. All the Wiper I boated seemed to hit just as I turned and my lines got straightened out. But as the wind got stronger it was hitting me broadside on the left side and when I would turn into it, it would spray up over the bow and became too difficult to maintain the speed I wanted. That's when I headed back to the marina long enough to use the jon and watch a couple guys almost get grounded on the sand bar just east of the ramp. But the wind died down enough to go back out for another couple hours sitting just off the beach area north or the marina. Both trolling and anchored I had several fairly hard hit and runs, but they didn't get hooked up. May try again tomorrow if this wind calms down.
