USU Student wants to hit newton
#1
Wondering if there are any loganites that would give me tips or possibly want to buddy to hit Newton with ya? I have minimal gear from living in the dorms but my trusty spinning rod gets it done! I can bass fish with the best of them Smile

Any tips for a new to newton guy? I've only even ice fished it

It is extremely low. I was out there a few weekends ago just casting a nymph on my fly rod walking along the bank. Caught lots of dinky crappie and blue gill.

Last I went the water was stinking low. No chance to launch. Thought about taking an inflatable.

The shoreline is really muddy, which is awkward. But you can fish from the rocky south side. I did manage to find a fair collection of decent perch. And my neighbor (fishing with line around a plastic bottle!) caught a small catfish and a decent bass as well. I did find a couple small bluegill, but no crappie. Didn't see any musky sign. Gather there's some "other" Tiger's in there too.

I was tossing a bobber and dropshotting worms mostly. Other years when I could still launch I nailed the perch while getting pestered by musky. Played the game of "how little worm does it take" left on the hook to still get 'em!

I'd be glad to join you, but if (hopefully!) I get out this weekend, have a mindset to go float somewhere. Cutler is likely, before they draw it down. But the post-spawn season at Porcupine, or fall Trout at Hyrum are also tempting me. The trout may not be Berry Monsters, but non-stop catching on the troll can be entertaining.

If you ever want to come up north of the border and fish let me know I would gladly take you out for bass or walleye.

Those look like decent perch, what size were they?

Oneicehole- I'm interested in finding some walleye through the ice. I'm up for crossing the border this winter.

I'm an aggie alum myself....and one of my best fishing days up there was about this time of year. I seemed to do best by the dam, and all I used was a worm and a sinker. Caught plenty of perch (which tasted terrible for some reason).

I don't tend to care to keep any under 8 inches. There were mostly 8-9 inches, not much bigger than that unfortunately.
