Henry's Report 10-20-14
#1
Stopped by Henrys Lake on the way home from a great fishing trip in So. Idaho (thanks Dale!). Expected to do some serious late fall trout fishing... but, what I found was a bunch of people pulling in cutthroats at the boat ramp.
Hundreds of fish have congregated at the dock area and about 40 or so wanna-be fisher-persons were catching bags of cuts (some using the ole' "sucker meat fly", others using a pink chironomid emerger). According to some of the folks dragging in the fish, F&G dumps these hatchery fish at the ramp and they come back there each fall in a false spawn cycle. The trout are right at the shore line, could have netted them rather than wasting time using a hook. Just like "fishing" in a fish hatchery.
No one in a boat on the lake was catching much, just a couple here and there. All the fishing activity was at the boat ramp.
It's a great place for a kid,or someone who has never caught a fish on a fly to practice, but hardly what I would call fishing.
We watched the spectacle for a couple of hours and headed on home.
Water temp, 47 degrees.
