Mt. View hogs
#1
Fished Mt. View Friday with similar results to Truchas Ole in regards to both action and size. As Truchas discovered at nearby Sheep Creek, the fish ran between 18" and 22". Fat, feisty, and in great shape. You better check your drag ahead of time with these bruisers. Kali and I were fishing off the shore, and all they wanted was the 'mallow/worm combo. Wanted nothing to do with Powerbait. The bite slowed down around 11:30. We limited easily with nice red-meated fish. Thought the massive plantings a few weeks ago would produce tons of smaller fish, but not so. We pretty much had the place to ourselves. Two cars over on the dam, and that was it. Attached is Kali's stringer. Don't feel guilty keeping the fish here. It is heavily planted, and the growth rate is impressive. Remember, you ice fishermen, the other two reservoirs close at the end of this month, but Mt. View stays open. It is definitely worth the trip. Mike

Wow! Those are impressive. The background of the blue sky and the still water is gorgeous. Thanks for the report.

Nice to hear you found some with red meat Mike. Seems like the ones I always catch at DV seem to be gray/white meat and not worth keeping unless canning them with lots of sauce. I always thought it was do to the snail diet. But fishing can be fun down there for sure.
