My buddy and I finally have access to a small fishing boat and would like to head up to Strawberry in the morning. We are a novices with a couple of spinning rods plus the motor on the boat is pretty small so we don't want to venture to far away from the Marina. We are not looking to catch monsters, just catch some fish and enjoy the company of an old friend for a few hours. Any suggestions would sure be appreciated.
Thanks!

Just a heads up. The wether tomorrow is supposed to be a bit dicey. Be careful. If you go a white tube jig with a 1/8 or 1/4 oz head and tipped with some minnow or chub meat is all you need. Cast it out and slowly retrieve it back. Every once in a while phase and allow it to drop. If you get a hit and miss it pause and more then likely the fish will hit it again and again. We were up there today and the 4 of of us in the boat landed 67. So the fishing is really good up there.

Worms 3' under a float was working yesterday too. All along the south side.
Look for weed beds extending out off shore and fish the drop offs of them.

If you want to troll, try trolling a crystal bugger, or wooly bugger, did that many years ago, and it worked pretty good. Tie on a swivel , add five or six feet of leader ,and tie on the fly. Add a small slit shot if need to get it down a bit. Troll slow as possible, and give it a little movement. Easy to do, and it can be productive.

Thanks for all the tips! We went up Saturday morning before the storm rolled in. We fought the wind the whole time but managed to catch a few. (like I said, novices) We still had a great time. Thanks again, we really appreciate it.

Thanks for letting us know. I for one am more likely to continue to help if I hear back that my posts have been appreciated.
Where did you try, if you don't mind me asking.

We launched at Renegade and fished in the bay to the West as it was less windy in there. We started on the South side and drifted across towards the North. We were using the white grubs tipped with a worm and a worm below a bubble. We caught most of them on the worm. Got a few hits on the grub but couldn't seem to hook them. Going to try and get up there again on Friday. I'm hooked!

Maybe these date and time charts can help.

The grub hookups can be a little tough, they seem to get ahold of the grub but not the hook. Make sure the hook is well exposed and give them a second to get it all in their mouth. They will keep gulping away as long as there is some kind of meat on the hook and they do not feel the hardness of the jig.
Things to think about.
When you got your strikes, did you continue to drift or go back to that area? How deep was the worm set below the bubble? What was the depth (to the bottom) you were in when strikes came? Were there weed beds near by?
Glad you had some fun and although you have to release most of the fish you catch Strawberry is good catching and can be addictive.

Hey Joni,
How often have you found the bite actually followed the times on that chart?

I followed a chart, like the one Joni posted, for a year and only found of few days where the times were on. There were times that it was right on but most days when it said it was going to be good at a certain time it wasn't. That being said, I have heard others say different, so it might come down to where and what you are targeting[:/].

I had an old time friend back back in the day who would only use the solunar time table on Strawberry. But for me, I am there enjoying the company and the chance at a strike. The time goes by so fast that the two hour window can be a blurr.

Well, I will try to remember to notice whether or not they are biting around 9:54 AM tomorrow at Strawberry.

I started using it this fall and it has been within 15 to 20 minutes so just a rough starting place. I have not found when the bite turns off as I don't stay that long. It will slow down at times then be two rod game on again.
Like mentioned, I am there anyway no matter what time or weather, but if I were to plan a trip I would take a look. No sense in getting up at 4 if you can wait till 7[ ]
