Fishen like TD
#1
Great day today had a 40 fish day and two were biggest of year for species. Water temp 45 deg F, but the fish didn't know it they acted hungry. Kind of felt like the fish thought I was TD today. They did like the left finned green eyed minnows and plastics. Had 8 cats and 30 LMB a SMB and a crappie. Won't happen again, but was fun today. All fish were released. Later J

I wish I could find some more bass for my fly rod, but lately I've been on a bass skunking streak.

I had been the same way not many bass this fall, just a crazy fluke today, but I'm not going to complain. Been seeing other posts from around the country with nice bass this month, maybe its the final feeding before the winter slow down. Later J

[#0000FF]Congrats on a nice day...even if you did use my name in vain.

Days like that are the ones we want to remember when we are smelling skunkish after a bad day.

This is the time of year when even though the water is colder the fish sometimes go on a feeding spree after a couple of nice days...instinctively knowing that there will be worse times ahead. Always great to time it just right and to be there when they go on the chew.

Hey Pat, it was fun to catch fish like you do. I do realize I hit an unusual day so I could do that, where its more the norm for you. But I'll take it any way I can get it. The fish were really fat and bellies seemed really full like they were eating really well so I bet you're right they are stocking up for cold times to come. Thanks for the well wish. J

Have you considered switching up approaches? If the fly isn't working try a jig or get the fly down deeper to where the fish are hanging now. Remember you need to take your lure to close to where the fish are. They won't expend any more energy than they have to so take your food to them. Good luck. J

Especially at this time of year when the water is cooler. Presentations need to be slowed down as well.

I don't really use my regular rod anymore. The only time I use it is when I'm fishing for Catfish the end. As well I've used type 6 sinking line and still nothing.

I noticed a lot of my hits were on the initial drop in and I never felt a bite they took it and started moving so when the line went to the side I knew one had it so I would jerk and set the hook. Kind of a different touch than catfish, but really fun. Oh I forgot, but I caught a catfish that thought it was a rainbow and it leaped out of the water during the fight. Kind of impressive to see a 22" fish in the air. Later J

Guess I can't help ya then, I use my fly rod at times, but I like the spinning rods as well and I try what will work best for each different situation. Sometimes I guess wrong, but its ok its all fun. Later J

Not bad mate! Sounds like one of my typical days (cough, sputter) godd mess of a mix sounds like. I won't hot spot ya, but I'd wager a tube venture?

Hey any reports on how mucky the marsh is? Been meaning to get out and have a look. Maybe take my tube out.

So what were your big fish?

Hey John, yup I was in my toon. My boat is out of commission till I fix a few things or take it into Lees and have him fix me up. Getting to totally love that toon its my favorite way to fish.

The sloughs are just like they were last year when they bottomed out the sloughs around my Dads house are pure deep mud. Out on the west side looks like there is still some water, but I haven't been out to check. The deep holes like under the bridges should still have deep enough water to keep the fish alive. I've seen several sloughs that have water trapped in them that I really worry about the fish in them, they are so shallow I'm sure the freeze up will run those trapped fish out of oxygen. Guess I need to go check and see what's happening there but I don't have much daylight anymore and too many hours at work.

It would be fun to try the upper float that we did last year, except I'm not sure we can get out and I'm not sure it would be deep enough for the whole distance.

The fish were a crappie at 12.75", nothing like TD's 15"ers, but.good for me. The other was a 16" LMB, no monster, but my best this year so far. Later J
