Was checking ACCUWEATHER online and the forecast for the month shows some cold temps coming and the last week or so of November is supposed to be below average temps with nightime average in the teens! (forecast for Layton, Ut)
Even with the warmer than usual fall, I think we'll be ice fishing by mid to late December at the closer in places like Pineview, Rockport, East canyon.
Funny, before I got into ice fishing didn't look forward to cold Winters.
Come on Ice! Time to start checking the ice fishing gear.

Drove through Strawberry Valley this a.m., 11 degrees on the west side of the reservoir, 8 degrees on the east! Thats a good start for ice making weather.

I know this doesn't really count, but the Cutler back sloughs have held ice for two days now with a forecast of 3 deg F overnight. Where I checked today had about 3/4" of ice. Might start to hold you skinny crazy guys in another night or two. That is probably an indication that the high country lakes are getting close. Have fun but be safe. Later J

Drove the Mirror Lake highway this morning. Trial has ice with quite a bit of open water. Lost was capped with just a few spots of open water. On over the top, Mirror was almost completely capped. Pass lake was completely capped. I walked out about 10 feet and drilled a hole. Only about 2 inches of ice. I wasn't brave enough to go out to deeper water and try fishing but the lakes are almost there.

Don't know when they close the gate - not sure how much snow accumulated on Thurs. Wednesday, it was open and the road was clear except down to Mirror from the highway. That had some snow but was not a problem.
