I drove into the State Park at 10 AM this morning to check the ice and believe it or not there was a lone ice fisherman on the ice just off the point to the west of the boat ramp. The lake must have froze while there were two foot waves because it is the roughest ice I've ever seen. The shore line has three feet high frozen waves of ice and the picnic table is completely encased in ice.
Let the games begin!
I have no knowledge of actual ice thickness so be careful out there.

I was up to my shoulders. One day ice fishing. Scared the heck out of my kids. They both said what should we do? I said get the rope. Changed clothes. Went back to the ice..
Neither one of them liked Ice Fishing. After that...

3+ inches of soft ice 70 yards off the state dock. Water is murky. Fishing was OK. I got there late, so the morning may be better then. 1 hybrid; the rest were cutthroats. Got blown off the lake about 2 pm.

Arctic Armor is awesome! If you fall through the water still gets in. You wont drown but you still can freeze to death. Keep a spare set of clothes in the truck. Its amazing how fast the shock starts to set in after you get out of the water....

Yes it was self inflicted last winter cisco fishing on Bear Lake. I wanted to try it out. Those suits float good but, just because a guy has one doesn't mean your perfectly safe. You have no idea how cold you get and it happens so fast. I had a warm running vehicle and wasn't in for a minute. I dont know how people live through being in the water for very long.

My friend and I did the same thing. He brought his Grandpa's old German shorthair Hunting. Said, it could tackle the job. We both, and the dog. About met our maker. Learned some thing about the ice and old dogs.
