I can't explain how cold it was this morning. I'm a die hard ice fisherman and this rates as one of the coldest mornings I've spent on the ice. The truck thermo said -5 when we arrived. Couple that with a brisk 20 to 30 mph wind and it was insidious. So we went out at the hatchery and joined a couple other groups on four to five inches of great solid clear ice. Best first ice I've seen in years. Fishing was amazing, like usual, from nine to eleven. My bro, Southsforkly had the hot hole, and iced twenty fish in two hours. The biggest, a hybrid, went twenty five inches and just over five pounds. My dad and I never caught up. All together we ended up with thirty five fish, all released. We were holding out for that big brookie, but he never came. I'm guessing he's up at pintail. As always, be cautious on new ice. With the weather forcast, it should be eight to ten inches by next weekend. Good luck. Be safe.

I got there about 1pm and about 10 degrees and a little wind at the mouth of the outlet. Very Merky watery under 5-8 inches of clear to wind blown ice. Didn't venture on to the newer looking ice. Tried 2 spots with out anything . Left around 4:30 when the wind would die then blow and gust to 25.

Good Job Guys! I went up there with a party of three, but did not go in the morning due to nasty roads. I am very aware that the best fishing is in the AM. Went to County great 4 inches of ice. Fishing was slow, but still got into them although setting up at 12:00 was unusual for me. Our largest was 22' and 20'. One of the coldest days ever on the ice, honestly at times there may have been a -30* windchill. I am a very prepared ice fisherman and even I was cold to the core; had the heat blasting all the way back to Rigby! Stoped at Big Juds in Ashton and the whole staff looked at us like we had come out of Barrow, Alaska. My son even took off one of his Sorels and one of his wool socks in the restraunt to get more circulation; I have to work on that kids table manners! I do not know if you noticed by the hatchery, but we found a couple of ducks really messed up, apparently the lake froze so fast that it messed up some waterfowl; I know it sounds like a Paul Bunyon story, but I also heard that a guy a couple of days ago put some out of their missery due to their condition. I will be back up there on the 26th; I will be at the Utes game this coming weekend. Goodluck to all and Happy Ice Fishing Season!

I noticed that there were a lot of duck feathers stuck on the ice. There looked to be some small dark things on the ice but didn't move with the other birds. That is the first time I have seen it. They were probably at least 500 yards into the lake.

Kent, I normally fish the outlet every year on Black Friday. We have been parking over on the private side (with permission) but when I called this year the guy told me they were shutting the area off due to litter and other issues. How do I get to the outlet legally? Why is the water dirty?
I might have to look at the Cliffs or Pintail.

The weather forcast does not look good for getting into Goose Bay the day after Thanksgiving . They don't plow the road and it looks like a lot of snow is coming .

We have a cabin on the south side east of the cliffs. Usually I can drive in until the first of Dec unless the wind blows a lot and makes big drifts.
I plan on being there maybe thanksgiving but Friday and Saturday for sure . I Plan on bringing a snowmobile to get around and haul the gear out for 2 families to fish. I think it was still murky from the wind before it capped. I have seen it blow for a day and not be that muddy afterwards.

Last year we were able to drive in on December 18 . We just made it in and that was the last time for the year . I hope the for cast for the next 10 days is wrong , or we are going to get alot of snow early .
