Jaw jacker freezing???

I'm just curious what do you guy's use too make sure your jaw jacker isn't freezing up on you??? Had the problem happened too me a few times last year when I wasn't in my tent and when I went out this year it froze up and I had a fish but it didn't snap up.

Anti-freeze is an excellent remedy in the form of Jack Daniels or Jim Beam. Be cautious about how much to remedy for jaw jacking can get away.

I have had this problem . I am going to try a light coat of Vaseline . I don't know if it will work .

Use windshield de-icer fluid. Found at most auto parts stores.

also - you can paint a ping-pong ball black, and drop it in the hole. Sun will help keep the surface ice melted if you're not watching it.

But when you check that it's set correctly, be sure you stand directly over it to assure how it will respond when it pops! [shocked]

If it's the trigger mechanism then you're most likely getting water on it and it's freezing it up. I've never had a problem with mine freezing up unless I got some water on it.

Just be very careful with the trigger. I shovel all the ice and snow away from the hole. When I catch a fish I move the jaw jacket to the side in order to make sure that the fish doesn't splash on the trigger. If the trigger gets frozen then I remove the bar with the trigger and tap it on my knee the ice falls out and the trigger works again. Really it's best to just prevent the problem in the first place. I love my jaw jackers.

I agree with windriver, really clear the area around the hole first, and always move the jacker well away from the hole when landing fish. Keeping the JJ dry is the best way. Having some windshield de-icer does help-too a certain point. I have had it freeze too when it really gets cold.
