Had a great time at Scofield today that I hope to post about later today but wanted to warn people about unsafe ice in some areas. When we left about noon there were huge pressure ridges opening up out in the main part of the lake with water going everywhere and ice sinking. Please take time to test the ice as you go if you plan on hitting Scofield anytime soon. It was in the 40's when we left.

In my opinion it's only safe close to shore. It's not worth going out farther especially with the warm weather coming back again.

Thanks for the warning, we're taking the kids up in the morning. Did you have any luck? Anywhere or anything in particular you were using? Thanks for the help. We look forward to getting out tomorrow!

By the state park/ dam is the safest place too be ice fishing right now. Tons of small cutthroat too entertain your kids for sure.

Sorry that this is probably too late but I'll share anyways. Regular old worms worked best overall for the day but we caught fish with wax worms, meal worms, chub meat. Also we tried all sizes and colors of lures and jigs trying to find something the chub's and smaller fish wouldn't take. No such luck. Fished in water from 10 to 17 feet having more success out deeper.
The bite would change from really light to my brother almost having a pole go down the hole. When they were bitting light it was really frustrating to set the hook. Other times you couldn't miss.
Only other strange thing was that Scofield has always been good before and just as the sun comes up for us. Yesterday was terrible until after the sun was up and finally reached the ice.

Watch out for any clear ice. It is slick as can be and hard to stay upright on. If you have ice cleats you will do well to use them.

Do you know if they ever clean up the road at the state park to the boat ramp at least?

No they usually just close the gate out by the road as soon as the snow flies.
I don't fish the north end by the ramp during the winter enough to know which roads and how far they plow over there. People are always fishing the north end so there must be somewhere to park.
In the past a large number of people find somewhere to park south of the dam to the island. Then hike.

With this bout of warm weather I wondered if it would effect the ice up there. Thanks for the warning.
