Quite Possibly This Year's Last Boat Trip to the Berry
#1
[#800000]This time of year it is difficult to decide between going to Strawberry for those plentiful big fall cutthroat and rainbows or to Bear Lake for the annual whitefish run. Flipped a coin and landed Strawberry side up.[/#800000]

[#800000]I, and my friend Dave O., left home at 4:00 AM, launched at 6:45 with no one in the parking lot but us. The west side of the ramp was totally bare and dry. The breeze/wind was blowing about 15 mph and pretty much stayed that way all day (stronger at times). Both the water surface and ambient air temperatures were 37°. We wore our winter coats and hoodies all day.[/#800000]

[#800000]We fished the Renegade area all day. We only boated 28 fish. All but one rainbow were slot cuts and all came in on standard fare white tubes and chub.[/#800000]
[#800000] [/#800000]
[#800000]From the weather reports I read on-line, it was looking to be a very calm warm day … NOT![/#800000]
[#800000] [/#800000]
[#800000]By the way, all of the docks are out of the water now so the last person getting into the boat and the first person getting out has to climb in/out from the shore bank.[/#800000] [#800000] [/#800000]

[#0000bf][#800000]That may very well have been my last boat trip to the Berry this year. But then, with these funky weather patterns lately, you never know. Next weekend I, and a few good friends, will be fishing the Bear Lake whitefish side of the coin flip.[/#800000][/#0000bf]

I've been wanting to get back up there but I put my boat to bed a week ago.

Love fishing that place. Been fishing it since back in the 60's when my parents had a cabin at the old Clarks Camp. I'd like to try a couple more times and either fish from shore or take my float tube but that might be a little on the cold side. . Might make one trip to Starvation before heading south for the winter in January.

Thanks for making me jealous and sharing your report. [Smile]

Man, I'll bet that brings back some great memories.

Thanks for the report Ralph. I put my boat to bed this weekend or I'd been up there with you. Man only 28 fish, what gives? That's a slow day for a seasoned berry pro like yourself.[Wink]

Ya know Trevor, I was actually hoping that the two of us could break a record today with 50 each. And, I am pretty sure we could have but the winds were just too strong. I think if the weather would have been as was forcasted for the Berry, we would have done much better. As it was, we only caught a quarter of the fish we were hoping for. But I've done a lot worse there too.

Well my friend if you decide to make one more trip and you need someone to split gas you have my number. I'll take a 50 fish challenge any day of the week[cool]

LOL ... Trev, that sounds great. Sounds like yet another great excuse to get back down there ... weather permitting. I'll PM you if I see a reasonable opportunity. But don't hold your breath. There was ice forming in Horse Creek Saturday.
