Bear Lake Whitefish
#1
Fished Sat/Sun on east side. Picked up many whities plus one rainbow and one very large laker. Small jigs tipped with nightcrawler. Saw one 14 foot boat on Sat morning with 4 hardy souls. 3 foot roller waves by 11 a.m.

Very nice job, crazy weather to do so well in finesse fishing. Good job. J

It was nuts. Difficult to feel a small jig with a big bow in the line from the waves and wind, but if you only have the weekend, you do what you gotta do. I was somewhat shocked myself with the mixed bag. I have caught cutts and bows before during the run, but this was my first laker during this time. If the weather this coming weekend is similar, tubers will have trouble.

You were reading my mind on next weekend. Sure hoping for calmer conditions. Sounds like you did really well, that's great. Later J

I remembered some of you had been talking about a flotilla. I hope it is calm as can be next weekend. Lot's easier to feel what's going on at the end of the line and lot's easier to stay upright when you're wading in up to your waist.

That's for sure, hope we can get this to work out, a toon is so much easier to deal with than my boat, it makes the trip much less hassle. Thanks for the great tips. J

Hey David, did you get any pics of the mack, is so, do you mind sharing it with us? Sounds like a decent day considering the wind you were dealing with.

Unfortunately camera was in the truck and I was alone. Took the dang thing Sunday and all I caught were white fish.

Caught me in the velveeta again did you??? Hey Pat any idea of when you'd like to try the BL whitefish trip? I think if my schedule allows I'd like to try Friday assuming the waves aren't too big.... Weather looks like maybe a break between storms that day... Catch ya later J

[#0000FF]I have been hobbling around on a sore knee since my last trip to Willard. Scheduled to go up with some guys in a boat on Saturday. Any time the week afterward could work...if I am recovered. The whitefish run is still a ways from peaking. The big question will be weather.

Let's tentatively look at the following Tuesday or Wednesday...the 9th or 10th. Got some other floaters who would like to join up too.

Never been called a hardy soul before but I'll take it, were you wading north of us? That rough water made it a bit tricky, but it was fun.

Yes, that was me. How did you guys do? I watched from my truck as I tried to unthaw but didn't see anything but snags?

We managed to catch 8 between 3 of us, the fourth guy got skunked. We left shortly after you did.

Very nice! I kept hearing "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" while I watched you guys in those rollers.
