Typical El Nino year in east Idaho. El Nino season storms tend to feature deep jet stream troughs that fetch warm air up out of Nevada and California. That monster storm that dropped -20 temps and two feet of powder down on us from the Gulf of Alaska two weeks ago is more typical of a La Nina season. Held a ski pass here for 15 years and I can tell you that El Ninos are the mediocre seasons that produce only 300-450 inches; rain events and thaws all the way up into the high country are normal during El Nino. You are probably going to see the ice fishing conditions going back and forth from good to bad plus an early spring during a typical El Nino.
