Stuck at Strawberry
#1
With 8 inches of snow on the ground at East Portal my little Tacoma could not get out! I made the mistake of driving down the hill to the shore and then I realized that my tires could not push that much snow. I kept sliding closer to the water and then I remembered my "differential lock" button. You gotta love Toyota trucks. We got back to the flat and then it was time to fish.

What a day! lost count at around 30 fish. We fished from 10am to 2pm and it was amazing action on white flies and black flies. White tube jigs were always getting bites as well. Water temp was 38.2 degrees. Chilly!

Here is a shot of the snow, the water and a typical 18 incher. An amazing day for December 2nd - the latest I have ever fished on my toon. That lake is amazing. We truly have a treasure right here in Utah.

Nice pics! That really makes me want to take a float tube out and get into some nicer fish. How deep were you fishing for the most part?

Shouldn't have any problem getting down there . Headed there friday same place . Wondering out loud if the road to Renegade is open. Looks like the water has only cooled three degrees since last time we fished it.

Good Luck. Watch for the snow ruts. They can be tricky down by the water.
The water is not cooling very fast. Ice is a ways off.
We did not catch any rainbows. Would love to know where they went to hide.

I think we were in the top 10 feet of water. The active fish were up high. I tried jigging for a while and the bottom fish did not take the tube.

We have been wondering the same thing about the lack of rainbows being caught. Was hoping someone has been to Renegade ,and could report on the roads. See any travel beyond where you guys turned off.

Thanks for the heads up on the snow, have seen trucks stuck down there in the mud, do have to know where not to go. They do like the point out there, and can have some trouble there.

There were vehicles going to Renegade. Even a truck with a boat was headed there. I think you can make it but I suggest caution and going slow. Once you start to slide on those slopes its hard to stop it.
Good luck. Find out where the rainbows went. [Wink]

Thanks, yes they were a little slippery, the last time we went, just took it slow.

We will try and hunt those rainbows down. I think we are going to have some open water for awhile, hopefully get in a a few more trips up there to find them. Will have to see.

Nice rod! That'd be a good one for jigging.

I got stuck on Black Friday on my way to CCW. The road was fine but a Sentra will not plow through the unpacked part when the 4x4's decide to run you out of the way.[Sad]

As far as open water, I've floated the Berry as late as my b-day (Dec 23). The SC side tends to stay open a bit longer than the main body.

Nice to know that about the Soldier Creek side. Maybe my fly fishing days this fall aren't over after all. Next week is supposed to be warm again all week.
