Fishing Ice Off
#1
Rather strange feeling today as I stopped to fish a small reservoir here in Southeast Idaho. It felt more like the beginning of spring rather than the prelude to winter. After I stumbled down the bank and slogged my way through the mud I realized that I had forgotten my camera in the car. Oh, well! I didn't plan on staying long anyway.

The edge of the fast vanishing ice was about 30 feet out. but the reservoir is so low the water was still very shallow. I could have walked out to the ice, but if I had I would probably still be there stuck in the muck! Since it was so shallow I put an indicator on to suspend my fly off the bottom. I fished from about 8:30 to 10. The fish stopped cruising a bit before 10. I caught three nice fish and missed another one.

It made for a fun start to the day.

When I got up to my car I got my camera and went back down to take a couple of pictures. Sorry, no fish pictures.

Definitely springish out there. Wish I hadn't listened to the forecast that called for rain. Oh well, Monday I'm hitting the river for sure. I could get used to winters like this [Smile]
