Photo Time Stamp App
#1
Don't know if this should be posted here or in contest forum but here goes.

After joining the ice contest I wanted to see if I could find a way to get the date stamp to show up on pictures taken with my iphone (not an option on the phone itself) as I don't want to pack a camera too.

After some searching and testing (and paying for a useless app) I found DateStamper for free in the app store. It allows you to add the date stamp to existing photos in your camera roll on your phone. It must look into the file of the photo for data as it puts the actual date (and time if wanted) the picture was taken with no way to modify (cheat) that I could see.

In the settings you can change font, color, size, and if you want the time as well as the date stamped.

Pretty slick and should help not only contest participants but those cataloging fishing pictures as well.

Tested on iphone 6.

Nice! Contests should make that mandatory if it's a free app...

Just installed it and tried it. Pretty slick. However I could not see how to change the color?

Ya know that would be a lot better than having to put the paper in the pictures, great tip thank you... J

Metadata.

It is embedded in all photos. It gives some interesting info, which can include GPS coords for those unmentioned hotspots. [Wink]

For example: Your profile pic was taken with a Sony DSC-P100 camera on Jun 27, 2010 at 2:23 pm.

The app is neat, but the data is already there...

Agreed, the data is there but without using an added program/app there is no way to have that stamped on a photo that you post for contest purposes. This is was the intention of the post - to make it easier for those posting pics and those judging the pics.

No additional program or app needed. Maybe a little typing... plenty of online ways to read the data.

I haven't read anywhere that a submitted photo needs to have a date stamped on said photo. At least in the Ice Contest rules.

There isn't a rule stating that you have to have the date stamp on the picture and I doubt there ever will be since not all of us own an i-phone and the info is usually there if you do some digging for it.

Having run a few contests myself, I can say with confidence that the date is something that can be easily manipulated through the camera settings. Although that form of cheating is really the not the worst someone can do when it comes to cheating to win.

The picture date rule and the BFT banner prevents people from getting a head start on the contest. The rule "entries should be posted within 2 weeks" was created to stop someone holding entries up all season till the last day to enter the fish.

Cheating wise (if they figured out how to) it really isn't that bad. Did they still have to find the big fish? Yep!

So get out there, catch some fish, have a great time, and stop worrying about your $5 guys.[Wink]

Ron, Ron, Ron. Didn't you see the headline today in the New York Times?

"Due to climate change rendering ice fishing too dangerous for Americans, the President has issued an Executive Order making it illegal for anyone to venture onto a frozen body of water in order to pursue fish, which after all, are really people too and they deserve to live in peace. No peace, no justice."

Don't kill the messenger, just trying to help. [Wink]
