Mini BFT Bear Lake Fest 12-9-14
#1
Hit Bear Lake today with R2U2 and ran into several other BFT'er as well... We hit Cisco Beach and played with the white fish again... I upped my take from 4 Friday to 8 today and I had a family emergency so had to leave at noonish so I didn't get as many hours of soak time today... Anyway, got 1 nice white fish and a great fighting sucker... By the way Mike, that sucker out fought any of the white fish and the wiper I caught this year... Great fighting fish, I really thought I had a nice mac, but got surprised... Anyway rest of the fish were small white fish... Fun day... Now we need everyone else that was there to report in... I know a lot of guys did much better than I did... Especially the three guys in the yellow starcraft that anchored next to me and kept pulling in trout all morning long... Nice ones too... Welll I know Mike, Ira and Bowhunter3 were there, plus a few others. so let us know how you did... BTW I got to try my new bump board today and I think I like it... Yup it's redneck, but I like it... Emergency ended up in an operation patching holes in my MIL's intestine. She was resting ok tonight we'll keep our fingers crossed that she will be ok. Kind of scary to get the word of get to the hospital quick when you're that far away. But it turned out ok. Thanks for asking. Later J

Glad ya had better success today Jeff! BTW, hope you kept the sucker, its the secret bait for the next catfish contest, hehe! I also hope your mother in law recovers without any trouble. It's scary to get those calls when your a quite a ways from home.
I ended up getting 8 off of Gus rich point in about 6-8 FOW and after we headed back to the marina I just had to go back out off of the marina rocks and nailed two more at 19" each. I got a real mess of fillets now for my smoker and frying pan.

Here's a pic to tease you into coming back next year! The biggest one is 20"![Tongue]

P.S. I'm diggin' your redneck bump board! I'm gonna steal your idea and make my own!

Hey Mike, wow what a nice batch of fish. Hopefully experience will help me do something like that next year or the year after.

I did keep the sucker, it's cut bait in the freezer now. Kind of had the same thing in mind. Especially since the posse has a new gun next year.

Hey thank you for the referral for the bearing repair didn't hear how it worked out, but I'm sure it helped reduce worry knowing there was a place close to help get them back on the road.

I really like that bump board, but it's a little heavy to drag around. Sure worked well yesterday and I think the cats should almost fit. I found a clear plasti dip coating at Walmart that I think is going to be great if it holds up. Time will tell. Well don't have too much fun with all that great fishing over there and I'll catch ya later J

[#0000FF]Glad you guys made it out and that you got fish.

Sorry I had to beg off. My knee would have never made it. It's hell to grow old...but better than the alternative.

We missed you, but with the unexpected end it was probably good you didn't make it and then had to leave early. However you did miss some great ice therapy on the knee. Couldn't believe how cold I got before the sun came up. Well get better soon and maybe we can meet up on the hard deck. Take care J

Congrats to you all. My kayak is winterized, and I didn't feel like wading or I'd have gone. Instead I took a rod and an MRE to Glassman Pond here in Ogden. Had fun with some planter 'bows (the 16"-ers right there under the fishing pier watch lures as their entertainment - you can almost see them laughing)

The MRE was good, the shirtsleeve fishing - it hit 60° - was wonderful, and I regret not having whitefish fillets only a little.

It was nice meeting you, and thanks for the info on the bearing repair. It ended up being even worse than I thought (which I thought was pretty bad). We are probably lucky we even got out and fished. I backed the trailer down into the water, and the wheel fell off. We were able to slide it back on, park it, get a guy from the service station to bring a flat bed trailer down and we loaded it up. A new hub later, we were on our way for the long journey back to Utah county.
As for the fishing, it was good. We ended up with 21 whitefish and 2 cutts caught. Kept 18 whites I think. On the plus side, I was informed that going through Evanston was faster than Logan from my house. This proved to be true, as the normally 3 hour trip only took 2 1/2.
A couple pics...

Looks like you had a good day of fishing despite the trouble. I have a good friend that has a taxidermy buisness in laketown, I always use the Evanston route driving up from the Ogden area, once you get out of Evanston no speed limits LOL.

You should count your blessings. You are fortunate that wheel didn't fall off while you were motoring down the highway, and that could have been really ugly with bodily injuries or worse.

Looks like you did well down there. Wow too bad about that wheel bearing, but it couldn't have failed at a better time to avoid damage to your boat and vehicle. I didn't think it looked that far gone. Glad you got it fixed okay. Anyway it was nice to meet you and your Dad. Till next time. Later J

I definitely agree that I was very lucky. If it was going to happen, it could not have been at a better time. any earlier and the boat would have definitely been damaged and most likely not even got to fish. And any later, again the boat would have been on and who knows where the wheel would have ended up if I would have been driving when it decided to come off.
Not sure when the cap decided to come off, but it just started squeaking a little coming into Garden City. Sure did a number on it quick, but as was said earlier it could have been so much worse.
all in all, it was a great day up there. Best weather and fishing I have had up there 5 star. Usually we are dressed for ice fishing and inside the boat freezing for a few fish. But yesterday was pretty eventful to say the least. Sure did make for a long day though getting up at 3 a.m. And getting home after 7 pm and dealing with all of this. thankfully made it home in one piece and did not have to leave the trailer up there.
Also, nice meeting you as well Jeff.
Again thanks for the help

You're welcome and glad I could help out a little. It was a fun day and nice to make an acquaintance. It's amazing how often those friendships come in handy. Whether it's for fishing tips or mechanical contacts. Glad everything worked out for you guys. Catch ya later. J

SkunkedAgain- good to read you had a good outing but sorry to hear about your MIL, glad she was ok.

Rocky- glad to read I'm not the only one that fishes that little pond, it sure has been good there lately. I think I'll hit it again today.

Thanks Curt, we will watch to make sure my MIL recovers from this set back, but might have been a good thing, they found a couple other things that needed work while they were in there, so we are hopeful this will improve her health all around... So can you believe this crazy nice weather, seems like we got blessed with a stalled season giving us more time to play on the soft water... I still haven't been to Mantua to graph me some spots to drill holes later... Maybe if the stars align I'll try a stormy float on Saturday... That assumes we get ice sometime this winter... Later J
