Henry's Lake
#1
Well since the Cascade trip is on hold till the ice comes again, we may be going to Henry's right after Christmas. So was wondering about the Wild Rose and fishing access from there since we will be walking on.

All of you posting those fantastic fish really makes it hard to make other choices, so thanks a lot.

Not sure who will be in the area bu hope to meet some of you there.

Hey Michael. I hope you have a great trip. You will have no issues accessing the ice by walking from the rose under current conditions. If we get a lot of snow between now and then, then all bets are off. I think you will be fine, though.

I may be up there that weekend. Just depends if i can get away for the weekend without hurting any feelings and if I can get someone to tag along. If I am it'll be in an extendable clam ice hut. Make sure to stop by if you see me.

I might be there as well. Don't plan on fast fishing. It is slowing down every day. I sure hope other options freeze up by next week.

Would you guys thinks that it's safe to take a four wheeler on the ice? I worry about those springs, they have 52 degree water that comes out of them and it takes really cold weather to freeze up around them.

Wild Rose has a springs that flows right into the marina. Last week there was still open water in the marina. I have a map hanging here at work with all the springs in the lake.

I walked within a few feet of both opens spots while we were there. Once you got out past where the water was moving, the ice was fine.

We fished around the State dock today, went way out along the east shore. Fishing started off hot then died completely. We moved to another spot, only marked a couple of fish and only had a couple of bites. Moved again closer to the dock area where the masses were and hardly marked any, but managed to land a small brookie and one real nice 3.5 lb Cutt. While I was cleaning him just now, in his gut was a 4.5" sculpin, hardly digested. My question is, why can't I ever catch anything on big bait? This one hit on the smallest jig I was using. I have tried fishing with crawdad and sculpin size lures before and have never caught anything on them up there? Any ideas? BTW, I put the sculpin in the freezer and plan to use him next time out. Smile

Fished around the outlet and had only my second ever no fish day. Tried the usual and a lot of other new stuff. And not a bite. I only saw two there caught out of 20 or more in the area. We saw 90% fewer fish when looking down the hole. Fished from 4-12 feet in 3 different spots. Not sure what to think but I will use larger and smaller jigs next weekend. Going to try some spots that I have caught them trolling in the summer. Some where I have a map that I found online that had the springs and depth listed and GPS. I went to one in the NE corner and it was like 4 feet deep not the 15 or so that was listed.
