I took a trip Sunday to see if anything has formed on the edges, but it still is completely open. It may be different now with this drop in temps!

No ice as of yesterday, as reported by my neighbor who said he caught a limit of slimers from shore near the boat ramp.

I keep an eye on it each work day, but like mentioned no ice yet, but I'm starting to see some on Cutler again and Mantua wasn't far behind it last time. Later J

I think all the lakes here are ready. Just need a good hard freeze at night and get rid of this 40 degree day temps and they'll lock up fast. I was in my float tube last week at Hyrum and that water was cold..... I couldnt feel my toes after 10 minutes.

I don't see it happening anytime soon, not with rain in the forecast...so we're still a ways away from any 'safe ice'. Of course you'll always have your few insane folks who like to live on the edge by adventuring out on less than 2"...but to each their own.

Like mentioned, it needs to be well below 32 degrees at night for a few days, and more importantly it needs to stay that cold during the daytime as well.

According to accuweather Christmas night and into the weekend look like good ice making conditions. Hopefully that cold weather stays through that following week.

I agree with your thoughts on the ice... The lakes are 39 deg F or less now except for Bear Lake that was 42 deg F... So I expect the water has turned over and I expect it won't take too much cold to tack things up... I expect if we see some good 10 deg F nights and days that don't get much above freezing, that we will see ice starting to build... Problem is we may not get enough of those days together to make it stick... Sure been an unusal winter so far.... I think it's my fault, I got a power auger and I can't wait to try it out... Anyway keep your toes warm and see ya on the hard deck... J

Haha! I guess it's both our fault... I got a new power auger too and new jigs/toys I want to play with this ice season... I may need to find a buddy to hit scofield.

Hopefully we'll get ice before too much longer. Only thing keeping me from going bonkers is the floating is still really fun. Catch ya later. J

Derek, check out the post Christmas Day forecast. Mantua should be good to go by New years Day at the LATEST... When are we gonna meet up on Mantua again to spank those 'gils and perch?

Geoff! It's been a few years!! You know I'll be hitting up Mantua and Hyrum because of the proximity. Get up here and fish with me if you can.

C'mon Hard Deck...sooner the better!

Ya when mantua freezes up let me know so we can meet up there. It's sure worth the 2 hrs drive for me to hit that place for perch, bg, bows, and bass in one day [Smile]

I'll watch it on the way home from work and report when I see it first tack over. If it freezes on the weekend I may be a late report, but as of Thursday it was still open. Later J

With these fluctuating temps and on-and-off rain, it's gonna be a while yet. Might not be until after New Year's Day this year.

If it does happen to freeze over in the next 10 days, it will be very unsafe.
