Was a little bored yesterday and itching for some birds to come down. Decided to drive to UL to scout and see if the water had come up at all. Will the water levels every get back up to the weed line? I guess that needs to be a different post. lol
In our 2 hour drive, we seen 20 deer, 4 were bucks. I will say they were around AF boat harbor. Cut across to Lindon boat harbor and cruised the shoreline. Seen about 6 geese, a billion seagulls, some coots and 3 large rafts of ducks sitting out in the middle. Since they were so far out, even with the Steiners, I couldn't tell what they were. So I am going to say they were all banded Redheads and Pintails.
Did notice some boats that looked like they were sitting heavy.. heading back to the harbor. Drove in and as suspected, it was the carp guys. The pics are of one of the three boats. Curious what their numbers are this year for removal. A few big ones in there. These boats are at least 30in deep? Lots of fertilizer.

I wonder if that is a typical haul for them or not. I keep hoping (in vain most likely) that the carp removal will help get UL to the tipping point quickly. I guess as with most things, it will take time and to be honest, I'm not sure if it will ever get there. Thanks for the pics.

Its nice to dream, isn't it? My personal opinion on UL is it just needs structure. Small fish really don't have a place to hide from predators, except for the all the weeds. And its pretty obvious they cant rely on that from year to year.
Remember on Lake of the Pines, and other bodies of water I have fished, local clubs would sink big piles of old Christmas trees to create structure? I don't know if that happens here or not, or if it is legal or not.
But it is an irrigation water lake, so recreation and fishing is way down the priority list. Just have to make the best of what we have... or catch slime rockets..

You and I have the same opinion. That lack of structure can really impact the fish. The low water levels has definitely impacted the fish during spawning time and afterwards since there is limited places where the you'd can hide.
I absolutely remember Christmas trees and brush being sunk. Especially at the Pines. In fact one year we located a few right around Thanksgiving that made it down around 40 feet in a creek channel. We caught white bass, yellow bass, black and white crappie, spotted, and largemouth bass all in the same area around a tree. It was pretty amazing and the fish were healthy. I believe we wore my Daddy out cleaning fish afterwards.
Based on what I have read in the regulations, planting structure is not allowed whether it be natural or artificial. However the previous owner of the Lindon Boat Harbor would have a few trees and stumps sunk around the harbor each year. That stopped last year as far as I know and I'm sure the trees have rotted.

Yes water levels should return to normal. However if we don't receive more moisture this year im not sure it will be full this year. I have seen it down low like this before and it surprisingly fills up in on season. Same holds true for deer creek. It was so low a while back people questioned if it would fill up and it did in one season. Jordanelle on the other hand is the one I question. Everything runs downhill and it seems to me jordanelle keeps getting lower and lower every year. It may be due to regulating water in deer creek or utah lake but it always seems really low to me?
